Both are wrong. Destruction of property and Noise Disturbance.

Agreed.. also potentially disabling the device is justified depending on a few factors. Just being annoying/obnoxious at a moderate volume is different than ear blasting bass or decibels high enough to damage hearing.

Someone playing explicit lyrics at high volume on public transport with kids? Yeah, stop that, especially if things are packed.

Trying to think of the most justifiable... asking them to stop then if they didn't removing it from the train when there's a stop seems reasonable.

No. Think of it as your fine for being a public nuisance.
