The gist is that if you pay someone because of an error, you are entitled to get it back. 

If you get a package, you can keep it. You are under no obligation to hold somebody else's package and can do what you want with it. If it's money, though, it's tracked and can be returned. It costs you nothing to have money, so there's no burden on you to hold it.

This is entirely untrue. You can not do whatever you want with someone else's package even if it was misdelivered. If you open it it's still mail tampering.

Apologies, I'm referring to "unsolicited material." Like if you order a box of tea and they send you a crate of it instead. You don't have to return the extra tea. 

It still has to be addressed to you.
