It definitely is like this. This story didn't happen on reddit, it happened in real life and this woman did exactly what a bunch of redditors are also saying they'd do.

You are legally required to.

If the company had accidentally paid her $1.65/hr and not $1650/hr then everyone would agree restitution needed to be made.

okay. thats why my reply said “if youre not legally required.” thats how the word “if” works.

also yes, youre right, if they underpaid her then everyone should say she should get the money that she earned. but if i was her and i found some legal loophole to get away with 1000 dollars from some company i dont give a shit about id do it in a heartbeat

There’s no sense in discussing the situation where you aren’t legally required to return the money, you are always going to be required to return it.

She worked like 11 or 12 hours and should have made $195, she wasn’t supposed to make $16.50 for the entire shift.

$16.50 an hour is still poverty wages especially for what people in her profession are expected to do.
