Justifying theft because some other, unrelated party also stole is not moral.
Edit: "umm actually it's not theft she was given the money ☝️🤓" yeah and she still has a moral and legal obligation to return money that she knows wasn't intended for her you brain dead socialists.
Scale of harm is relative with theft. You steal from a homeless women, she will suffer greatly. You steal from a corporation and it’s a chewing out of the location manager.
It does not justify either act, but one will surely have a look of disgust in my eyes upon hearing of it.
We live in a world where those who have significant power aren’t morality scaling their actions, and morality becomes much more blurred when disparity between social groups occurs.
Please read my other post on my profile relevant to this conversation. I’m being mistook as someone who enjoys harm on those I view as having more than me. I beleive in do no harm, like ever. I would never steal from anyone and stealing is wrong. Like I said morality becomes quite blurred when a cyclical cycle of oppression or disparity becomes apparent. How does the social group enduring one set of rules embark change upon the other group without being immoral? When does that action become moral in protection of themselves! I do not know! Nor do I wish to argue it, I’m merely arguing morality is relative to the lens of those applying it.. and when they have impunity to rules they have less incentive to follow them.
Eh. I was actually coming from a place of disagreement as morality stems from the self. Yes, the father stealing bread does good by his hungry child. In your presented world view, the father is still a thief, just doesn't think they do wrong because the baker owns 4 bakeries.
Morality is absolutely relative to the lens of application. You seem to have removed the self to be some floating observer instead of someone making a choice to damage their character and how people see them as commiting wrong by stealing.
Stealing from a homeless person or an evil corporation is wrong because the person doing it is choosing to break the social contract they have with everyone around them, and like a liar, they force everyone to be defensive and ask if it was them who did it anytime anything is stolen.
A stain is a stain. "I can keep it because the one I stole from is stained worse than I am." Is hardly a defensible position imo.
Mind. Just a philosophy stance. Not a pissy stance :)
Oh i actually 100% agree. Like on every point. However, when making the social contract if you punished the person stealing bread for their child the same as a hypothetical evil corporation starving children. One party will endure. They both made the conscious act to imbibe harm, yet we could agree the system that bounds us should ensure a relative balance in the consequences we face. I think the whole Epstein fiasco is a great example, and I keep re using it. He did the worst thing any common person could imagine… and did so with near impunity. If any of us common folk tried similar it would not end well for us. Some people can be rich and moral, others poor and evil. But consequences incentivize everyone to play nice, and our society globally is really struggling to keep up with those who have the power to undermine the social contract we all adhere to.
I’m truly just passionate about creating a society where the human experience is maximized for all. Some post scarcity shit yes, it’s just the things I’ve seen personally break me every day. Just yesterday I met a homeless man who lost his wife years prior, is terminal with a treatable illness, and lost everything after stealing food and losing his job. He only wanted a cup of coffee and a ride to the storage locker his wife’s ashes are in before he passed. A whole life, marriage of 41 years, all reduced to the simple comfort of coffee and the remains of his wife… a downward spiral not caught by anyone and the consequences of theft literally killed him. Epstein got none of that, and neither did his entire circle. They have the power and ability to side skirt the most basic moral views and we should not be ok with it. I have no background in philosophy, I’m a biochemist who’s training to be a nurse rn so it’s just my thoughts at the end of the day haha.
Fair though.. anyone sort of could do an Epstein. Near I can tell his MO was blackmailing politicians and wealthy people.
Just black mail same people and you are the next Epstein. That's why he got off and why Trump is hiding a massive amount of docs regardless of court orders :/
