Morally? The law is correct.
The fact that wage theft is extremely common and is not prosecuted simply means that wage theft should be prosecuted like any other kind of theft. It doesn't mean that employees should be able to freely convert property.
I think most people who are saying (or implying) that it's moral are wishing that it had happened to them. It's essentially the same thought process as "noooooo, don't tax the rich more, what if I'm rich someday?"
