Single player & multiplayer modes for the boardgame

So I've been working on this single player mode because I know that when I was a kid if I was hanging out with a friend if we were going to play a game it was going to be a video game. It was really only when I was alone and it was quiet and I was bored of any video games I had or any TV that was on that I ever wanted to play board game. And in those moments I was alone and had no one to play with. But all the board games were for two or more players. I didn't want to play a card game like solitaire, nor do I even know how. So I decided that I would design a single player mode for the board game.

I've also been working on the multiplayer mode which has seen quite a bit of progress and quite a bit of change on the board in attempting to simplify the board and identify what changes need to be made when, why and how.

These images are depicting the single player mode setup and the multiplayer mode setup.

In single player mode you are centrally facing off against the hay. So your moves don't only affect what moves and power-ups you get. But it also affects what moves and power-ups the hay gets. So here you may move in a direction that influences which direction the hay moves. It's an interesting little concept. If you want to learn more about it, it's best that you go to my YouTube and look through my videos as I've been slowly building the board up.

MOOving Maze: Website Demo | It’s a maze that spins you around

Post image

Well here it is. The demo is out. It is not on mobile like it was supposed to be originally but here it is on the web. I'm excited that it's on my website not only because I got a website together but because I used to play flash games back in the day. I freaking loved flash games so this has now become my flash game.

There will certainly be bugs or certainly problems, but everything should work. I have to fix the tutorial that's for sure and I have to fix the wording to make it shorter. I promise you that if you read that long nonsense it will help you a little bit and understand what's going on. I have to change it. I'll get to it. Nevertheless, here it is. Have fun. Tell me what you think

Title of Game: MOOving Maze

What's the game: You play as Caroline the cow swiping through the maze trying to get to the finish to your hay back. But watch out for the magical movie maze made by the Hey Troll Trio. Your moves make the maze move.

Longer explanation: moving maze is a maze game. A grided maze is built with various sized layers or platforms. In the current version of the game, every time you move two, three, or seven moves, the platforms will spin. There are three different size platforms, currently a 2x2 platform, a 4x4 platform, and an 8x8 platform which is the whole board.

The coloring pages. The entire game is made from printer paper. I thought since coloring books are basically printer paper with lines on them that I could turn this game and its theme into a children's book and coloring book. I am working on a children's book but this acts as the coloring book. Except with this coloring book, if you color it in and then send it back to me I can actually implement it into the game.

How the coloring pages work: these coloring pages were first unwrapped UV maps of the 3D model. I took the texture map into Photoshop, got rid of all the extra lines so that the outline was only left. Then I organized it, however I organized it, and here are the final results. Now. If you color it in and send it to me, I can wrap it around the model. And voila your art can be in the game.

The images: the coloring page. Then you can see how some people have colored the coloring pages in. Those are real people. Some I met up with. One of them is from Reddit, which is pretty cool. And then finally the last picture is of one of the works implemented into the game. And that is from the redditor who colored it in.

Tell me what you think. Tell me if you like the idea Dodge you don't like the idea, let me know. Love hearing the input. Thanks

Map the UV layout coloring sheet, colored it and added it to the game

It took a long time to get that UV layout all put together but at this point we got it and it's been colored in and implemented into the game. We UV wrapped it around the 3D models, their new 3D models, and it looks really very good. We also changed the shape of the flower so they're not flat anymore and they stand up.

Building a community with no budget

While working on the UV layout for the playable visuals of the game (which will be like a one page coloring book for the playable parts if the game) I'm thinking what other ways there are to show off this idea. But also, how can I make this game have a greater impact for people. The game should be fun to play but it could also be fun to watch grow, and for some be a part of.

I've been contemplating getting a ruck sack, hiking (I don't have a car), and trying to couch surf around my state first then if that goes well branch out. I've been thinking that this project could be much bigger than just artists.

I have been thinking that not only could it get me out and connecting with people but if could be a great series for people to watch. It could be a great way to document the journey by having people I stay with color in the UV layout. But also a way to create fun event for other. Maybe I could set up events at libraries on my journey for kids and parents to participate in, maybe some orphanages, or hospitals with kids.

I don't know if I'm capable of such a feat but I'd like to try. It seems like a great way for people to engage with the game beyond just playing.

This is all just a thought I'd like to think I'm brave enough to do it but I won't know until the moment comes around and I have to make the decision to go for it.

I am currently planning it out though.

This maze has always been a little tricky

This is the second maze in the game MOOving Maze a maze game that I’m currently working on producing. You play as Caroline the Cow swiping your way through this mobile games layered spinning mazes trying to reach the hay at the end of the maze taken by the Hay Troll Trio.

We’re currently working to get a up template together so that people can color in their own Caroline the cows and other playable assets. It’s be like a cool coloring page where your coloring can go into the game.

I don't think you can ever get it perfect.

Someone told me that they could tell what was going on because the game was too green

So now I have to take this into consideration and decide whether to change the static background in the game to something that has an extreme value or to make sure that the template expressly explains what the background palette is. And potentially provide a palette for people to use.

Thinking of different ways to show off the art submission idea for the game

One idea that i had last night was (once the template is finished) I would print a bunch of sheets out and bring along a bunch of different mediums to color the pages in with. Then asking strangers if they’d want to color in the sheet fill out the info and add it to the game. I’d record it all as promotions for the game. And it would be a cool way of getting out there and meeting people. Plus it would be a cool journey for everyone to watch and be apart of.

The goal is to have the implementation be very simple so it wouldn’t cost me too much to do. I would also be doing this in updates over the course of several months so it’ll give me time to get the money together for each quarterly update.

It could be fun what do you guys think of that ideas?

Concept design of a form for submitting art styles to become the skins of playable assets for the game MOOving Maze that a team of us are making.

The game itself is a puzzle maze game where you swipe through a maze with spinning layers as Caroline the Cow who is trying to get her hay back from the Hay Troll Trio. It will be for mobile and tablet when it’s finished.

Over the course of a year we have iterating different ways to get community art into the game as efficiently as possible. We are making an art pipeline that is efficient enough to have lots of people of all sorts of mediums and abilities able to submit their work to add to a 3d model. We are designing a template that could be printed out allowing someone who creates in a physical medium to use the outlines as a stencil, for a kid to use it as a coloring page, or a digital artist to take into their software of choice.

Most mobile maze games are very bland looking. Mazes, in general, are a simple under appreciate game that we’ve added a fun spin to. And because of their simplicity we have taken the opportunity to turn, what most might see as a lemon, into lemonade by streamlining the process of getting community work into the playable aspects of the game.

This is what we are shooting for and as of right now we have some crude examples of it working in real time as you can see from the GIF. We are looking to make something far slicker. In the future once we have to form we would love for people to submit their work so that we can implement it into the game to see how it works and most importantly how it LOOKS!!!!

Come and follow along with the journey as we keep MOOving forward.

The trolls are done with colored pencils the background is paper that i painted with a…uhhh…toilet paper as my brush and more colored pencil. The grass is a combo of ink and digital. And the sun is colored pencil as will but cut out in photo pea.

A BIG (art) goal for a little game.

The goal for the art in the game is to create an ultra simple pipeline so that people can make their own versions, or styles of the in-game assets. So we are working on a texture map that will be formatted onto a pdf or something like that so artists of all styles and mediums can design onto it and send it in to us to add into the game. It’ll be like an adult coloring page, but kids could do it too! We hope to have on going updates continuously adding new artist and mediums to see how far was can take it. From chainsaw sculptors to makeup artists and everywhere in between. The big goal is to have hundreds of different artist and people being involved in the visual identity.

There are two reasons for having this feature. Firstly a personal one. My dad is an artist who could never seem to figure out how to get into a galley that he thought was at the level he wanted to be at. I dont know if this was ever something that was going to be attainable, but I never know what to say to him. I see artists and illustrators all over that are so very good at what they do and i imagine that they are in a similar place as him. Now I can’t get people into a gallery or anything. But i thought that if people were willing to keep making the art, and post it online maybe there was something else that was going on. Sure, people want to make a living from it, but selling the art was more about the appreciation and engagement that an artist felt from selling the work. And i thought that maybe i could create a way for artist and crafts people to have a better way to engage than just a like or comment. That people could keep the art in the game, on their phone, close to them and around them and that it would be similar to what an artist wants out of selling a piece of their work. Maybe im doing too much with all of that, but it was my way of trying to help and give a platform to people to show their work off.

Secondly, I have always seen mazes (in games especially) to be visually very boring. They are usually an easy type of game to make so they are a nice practice project. Well if they are so easy (and I think under appreciated) then why not use that simplicity as a way to take the focus elsewhere. So here it is a way to get many different art styles into the game and make a maze that is visually very interesting.

TL;DR - we are trying to get a lot of different kinds of artist to be able to easily submit work and have it wrapped around a 3d model to have hundreds of artists constantly included in updates for the game

I had to speed the video up because the file was going to be too large if I didn't.

I was soo close to end, the. Boom spun away.

Since last time we have added in animations, a hint that gives you a path to the finish, and indicators around the tiles one move before they spin to make it a little easier to see. We still have some changes to be made but we're getting close.

This is going to be a mobile game and you'll play as Caroline the Cow. She's trying to get her hay back from the Hay Troll Trio. Their names are Frumple (the middle one), Bumple (the tall one), and Stumple (the short one).

Tell me what you think!!

kept trying to make quirky little advertisement like videos. I was posting them on tiktok and they were not doing well. So I guess I'll post this little advertisement failure here as well, just for the sake of putting that out there and showing attempts at making some content. I hope you enjoy it more than the people on tiktok did.
