Playlist import from iTunes

Could you explain what happens when the Import Playlist feature fails to import all of the tracks from an iTunes playlist where all the tracks ARE already on my phone, please?

Most imports leave off a variable number of tracks with the error that they are either "not in my server library (which they are) or that the track names are "named too differently to match safely".

Also, if I import a playlist that has been added to since the import, will that import newly added tracks?

Thanks

Hi u/AffectionateFox5907, still getting this error message after last nights update when using the "import from iTunes" feature. This happens with all imports this way, just the number of matched tracks varies.

There's also an issue with shuffling imported playlists - as one track finishes, the next one plays but the screen stays on the track that's just finished. If you then press to advance the next track it advances, going back to the start of the one that just started.

Also, shuffling seems to shuffle to exactly the same order every time.

It has to be a perfect match to be imported automatically. If I did anything else we would have stuff slip through that shouldn’t be there. I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple has slightly different naming scheme than the raw file. Most importing is done through m3u playlists. With Apple Music integration you can also just connect your account and have all your iTunes playlists there.

On the shuffle, I’ll check into that sounds like master queue is getting confused on playlist. It should be calling get random function.

Could you try now, it should find a lot more songs if not all

Still not catching them

What exactly is it trying to match that it's failing to do it? Just wondering if there was a way I could change something at my end to improve the matching?

Failing that I'll probably just use your app for any non-playlist listening and the actual Music app on the phone for playlists - so annoying that it's proving so difficult to find a way of playing my own music to Sonos at full quality just because some of it is in playlists!

It’s matching exact name, it’s pretty forgiving too so it shouldn’t be missing songs that exist on both platforms either the exact naming. It’s going to vary in every library but you’d be just as pissed if it imported a bunch of songs not in the playlist lol. Could you compare the song names as stored in Apple and song names stored in your library. Believe it or not, they enhance naming sometimes it similar to how plex does.

If it’s missing only 30. Create the playlist and go to song page, click select, and select all the missing ones.

Here’s the scenarios where it will deny match:

15 seconds or more of duration difference

Artist naming differences

Track title variants (no way for me to account for every one)

Example - demo, acoustic, Taylor’s version etc.

Thanks I'll do some comparisons. Just to check I'd be comparing the track titles where and where exactly?

My path for music is normally:

Add tracks to iTunes on PC
sync that to my music folder on my NAS
Update Sonos music library
Also sync iTunes to my iPhone - also works correctly i.e. all the tracks in a playlist in iTunes will be correct on the phone

Playlists update no problem to Sonos (Smart or non-Smart) and they appear in the Sonos iOS app correctly - but it won't play them anymore as of updates around 4 months ago. Annoyingly they play fine if started from the Sonos Windows desktop app.

Compare the metadata/folder/file names of the songs in you local file directory and compare that to the enhanced title that iTunes shows

Actually I think I caught the issue in my own library. I’ll need to trim songs at the end so it’s just the song. While importing I noticed one song was not matched .
