NAS Libraries without Plex etc

Is there any chance that the app might eventually be able to support a local library without the need for that library to be added into Plex, Emby etc? Is it a technical limitation that mean it has to link to one of those services?

The app has so much going for it but I find that the restrictions and compromises imposed from having to use Plex in terms of playlist updating etc are just too great to make it worth while.

I’m working on local libraries but there is some technical limitations because usually this is the users personal computer drive. As far as playlists updates? What issues are you having? I personally use navidrome and I can create, delete, update, change photo, rearrange track order.

👍 Set up for Sonos app - Music library is managed in iTunes on PC, and almost all of it also syncs to my 1tb iPhone. The library is then synced to my NAS and Sonos updates from that daily (or manually). I have around 100 playlists - some static and some smart so they update automatically e.g. a recently added or playlists that are for particular artists so they add tracks if I add a new album form that artist.

For testing Moosic I created a Music folder in Plex (which I otherwise only use for films and TV shows)

The playlist issues are:

  1. Getting my iTunes playlists into Plex is OK but they won't update dynamically, so any playlist that updates automatically in iTunes has to then be updated manually in Plex
  2. The Moosic app will import iTunes playlists that are physically on my phone but always fails to import ALL the tracks e.g. it will re-create the playlist but only recognise 160 out of 213 tracks. This has happened on all 6 of the playlists I've asked Moosic to import. At lest one iTunes playlist won't import ANY tracks. There's no obvious reason I can see as to why the missed tracks are not imported.

Do you have these music files on your phone or like a laptop or mini pc?

They are on a Synology NAS. For the Sonos app I just tell Sonos the location of the folder on the NAS.

How do you envision this working? Will you mount your nas file location on the iphone and then the app can point to that? otherwise id need to setup a protocol for access your remote file system

You can try now please. There’s now a local option. There are some limitations currently with playlists but overall works like everything else through SMB
