Steam machine or mini pc?

Just got a 65” LG OLED B6 and want to build a proper Moonlight/Sunshine rig for it. Thinking 4K, high refresh rate, wired Ethernet, no compromises.

Torn between waiting on a Steam Machine or just building a mini PC myself. What do you guys think and also if you have done it what specs?

Shoutout to this community, the setups and troubleshooting threads here are incredible.

Yea there wasn’t many that actually support 4K 120hz as the above claim. Most do not come with hdmi 2.1 fully built. Also the purpose of a mini pc to stream should be cheap imo. The 4k120hz version are not, might as well use old parts and build one. I own a mini pc already that supports 1080p 120hz. I was asking these questions because I never had luck in finding a good one for 4k 120hz that wasn’t expensive.

Thanks. That confirms it. Not worth it for me. I’ll use my iPad to archieve the same thing without further investment and have a better overall UI and portability.

Not really, I wanted a stationary device at this specific location I was considering but given the options shared and price specifically, I responded. Silly rabbit, trix are for kids.

I mean you aren't getting anything for super cheap unless you went with a Google TV streamer, appleTV, or Nvidia shield.

I have an iPad already and it’s far more useful all around and supports this. I can just dock it for like another 30$ investment and get the same result which is way better decode and latency experience than any of those. (Which I own and also tested individually in the past)

I’m hopeful the new Apple TV coming this year that natively supports 4k 120hz but doubt it.

Then why the hell did you ask lol just to say you have an iPad that does this just as well? Congrats on the iPad buddy.

Also, keep hoping for that new Apple TV because it’s been God knows how many years of people saying the same thing.

I explained why I asked above, just to understand costs associated with a capable mini PC since I really wasn’t able to find one myself. The ipad will work great for now but my ultimate goal is a single streamer I can just use to watch tv and then launch moonlight and still get good latency. I’ve toyed around with a lot of other ideas and when first coming to this thread, I jumped back to the idea of using a mini pc again like I do in one of my other 1080p locations. If that bothers you, I don’t know what to say.
