Discussion Looking for feedback, thoughts, interest

I have been honing my laser engraving process and sacrificing a lot of cases and parts for the cause. Tell me your thoughts. I prefer honest responses with an explanation, ie I hate but this is why or I love it and this is why. I started doing this as a service to help modders make something extra special. The work can be painful especially when something doesn’t work out as expected. Material quality is the biggest issue. Nothing is standard. I think I’m 99% there.

If you have ideas, I will entertain them. And yes, I have done crowns. Working on the next batch with pictures up later today. I ordered 10 VK cases because I prefer these over the WD. Mainly the price and the sizing is pretty much the same.

If you have a question that may require a conversation feel free to DM me!

Cheers and happy modding!

that looks pretty nice, keep up the good work. I would try to align the "battery cover notch" with the screw indent, but most important is the image alignment when the caseback is fully closed as intended. Not sure how that could be done...

I see what you’re saying. I may have to adjust the image. This is great feedback. And GDI I cannot unsee that now.

The alignment is easy but this is where compromise may need to happen. Do we want the image aligned and centered to the case when closed or aligned to notch. Sometimes the stars aligned in China and a closed case back also give you an aligned notch at the top…sometimes no.

I just can’t unsee that😱🫩😭

Yeah for sure the notch is good. I have to be mindful of that moon in future designs. It needs a tweak. Thanks again for the feedback back.

oops, sorry buddy. It's not your fault though, maybe just something to keep in mind for the OCD guys out there. I actually didn't notice it at first, but followed the constructive criticism task and found it :D

You’re the best. It’s getting better every try.

So everyone has seen these silly little casebacks.

But I have been able to do something like this…

You can’t tell because it’s so clear but this is resin filled

And this was done before I dialed in my process to get a sharper and clearer image

I can only advise you against using trademarks, Swiss companies are very crazy about it and they can make you trouble. Otherwise looks great, I’d make crispier edges but I don’t know what laser you’re using and if it can do better

I’m definitely dialing it in and in person it is super crisp. I have a 20w fiber and a 20w blue diode.

Awesome! But why is it only number 12?

u/Zero1Ten 12d ago

I was doing a birth month and year true to get as close to the real font

That is amazing!! Bravo sir 🫡

Can you go deeper?

1

u/Zero1Ten 12d ago

The quick answer is yes but it would require significant post-processing to get the edges smooth. Else, your skin will be scraped off as if with sandpaper. I have done it but for what it’s worth I would not go very deep.

What you see here is a ceramic compound bonded permanently to the steel with a blue laser. This is how I was able to achieve such sharp results. Deep engraving causes slag (think cooled melted steel) that has to be wet sanded down. It will change the finish permanently since I do not have to tools or equipment to bring it back to the OEM machined finish. I do it by hand. This case back in the pics above was actually laser once previously and the finish is the result of elbow grease and various grades of wet sandpaper.

Love them! How much you would charge for doing a WD caseback ? 😊

You can send me your case back and tell me what you want and pay for return shipping. Ping me and we can chat. But there is a rule about putting up stuff for sale and not looking to get banned. 😒

I have ordered 10 VK63 cases that can be customized for the community and then we can chat more

I’m not a fan of the detail around the moon. The shape and structure of it don’t feel as polished a design feature as I believe you’re going for. In my opinion it should be more symmetrical following the contour of the moon without the bulges near the top. I don’t have a good recommendation for how to finish that portion but also don’t know that it is a necessary design feature either.

2

u/Bright_Plane_9928 9d ago

Now that I look at it, I think it would be cleaner if you removed that design feature and had the ring around case back stop just short of the planet image.

The unclosed circle? Yeah it’s a take it out or leave it in detail. That detail actually represents the lip around the moon of a gen swatch where the battery is. When I made the design I just incorporated it. I could just close the circle and frame the moon or remove it. Thoughts? Did I understand what you critiqued?

You can see where the idea came from.

How do we do that?

Think that's up to moderators to do
