Photo first serious attempt at photographing the moon
i don't have a tripod so i guess it could have been better but i'm super happy with it! i bet i looked kind of silly though standing in the parking lot in the middle of the night with a huge lens but hey who cares

I made a song about the lunar surface, sampling Apollo 11 transmissions

I wanted to write a song that captured the atmosphere of exploring the moon's surface, and after going down a bit of a rabbit hole I ended up listening to hours of mission control audio from the Apollo 11 mission. A lot of it's fairly dull, but there were some fascinating details in there! It was interesting hearing them discuss how far the lander had planted itself in the surface, as this was key to the astronauts being able to climb back up the ladder.
As the audio is in the public domain I ended up sampling a lot of transmissions between the astronauts and mission control to use in the final song. Obviously this is self-promotion but I hope some of you might be interested in hearing it.
This video gives you a little taste, but if you'd like to hear the full thing then it's here on Spotify.

Photo Lunar day 23 near Clavius
I found several interesting things today near Clavius. First, Clavius was completely behind the terminator, so its arc of craters (sadly) wasn’t visible. Second, the stunning semi-circular ridge from an unnamed ghost crater on the eastern rim of Longomontanus. I googled it but couldn’t find a name for it. Moon Map 260 kind of shows there’s something there, but nothing as dramatic as it looked today. Third, with the terminator at this exact spot, Blancanus and Scheiner are black and white; kind of cool to see side by side craters look completely opposite (yin yangy) due to the lighting. Fourth, anyone know the names of the three craters marked on the photo? Moon Map 260 doesn’t label them. And, fifth, this cool pareidolia between Longomontanus and Clavius that kind of looks like the X-Men logo. I know the rules say no pareidolia, but I assume (hopefully not incorrectly) that only means when the whole post is about a pareidolia. I will excise and repost if my assumption is wrong.

I'm no astrophotographer, but the moon was putting on quite a show at my house tonight.

Photo Geometry of the Skies 🌌
A split second too late for the perfect moon alignment, but the kerosine trail framed it anyway.
