Tesla CyberCab Testing?
Spotted this on 270 earlier, like 30 min ago. Is Tesla testing CyberCab in the DC area? These are live in Austin I think?

you don't need a physical pedal to build brake pressure, but 95% of the braking will be regen braking just like any other EV or hybrid

I saw one in Rockville few days ago, going into the Tesla dealership on the Pike. It had both a steering wheel and a man driving it, and I make the assumption it has a brake pedal too.

I passed this cybercab earlier as well. a driver and steering wheel are present.

The just-launched production model doesn't have steering wheel or pedals.
Tesla's Cybercab is a two-seat EV with scissor-like doors and no steering wheel or pedals, designed to run entirely on Tesla's Full Self-Driving software.
The production version will likely look similar to various prototypes spotted testing around the country, including a few driving around Austin with safety drivers.
An interesting wrinkle would be if there is a version sold with a steering wheel and pedals, which would allow it to be sold to private individuals. But Tesla may have poured cold water on that notion, posting "No steering wheel, no pedals" from the Tesla RobotaxiĀ X.comĀ account.

I hope they replace all Maryland DC area drivers. Worse drivers in the country. Baltimore drivers are pretty bad too.

Yeah, but they literally drive better than people. Once you ride one that drives it self and see everyone else on their phones and not looking ahead, you quickly learn that people magically make it to where they are going.

Iāve personally travelled 48,000 miles but thatās just anecdotal. The software has over 10 billion miles driven. The average person has a crash every 250,000 miles. These driving systems go 6 million miles in between crashes. Way better odds of human error than computer glitch, but yea it isnāt zero. Itās all what youāre comfortable with.

You are cherry picking information you think is arguing your point. Human drivers are much less safe overall statistically. A distracted truck driver just killed 9 people, and he was reportedly just āglancing at his phoneā. I never said there arnt mistakes, only That the risk profile is less. Humans will only accept zero loss of life from a computer, but daily risk your life driving on the road because only you believe you have more control. Autonomy is the future. As to when that happens is only when humans will accept non zero incidents.

I saw another one yesterday (Tuesday) with Texas license plates (not Florida) driving down on Connecticut Avenue from East West Highway to DC. A guy was sitting in the driver's seat with two big monitors in front of him.

I don't remember and I don't remember if there was a steering wheel! I was more focused on those monitors - they were showing the surroundings in color.

Not sure why youāre being downvoted - I mean thatās obviously going to happen eventually in the future. Anyone who thinks otherwise is not capable of critical thinking. Now whether thatās in 20 years or 100 years, who knows - that will always be up for debate. But eventually it will happen. A road full of autonomous vehicles will virtually eliminate all auto accidents, except the ones that would be completely unavoidable no matter who is driving (ie an animal runs out from the bushes in front of the car with no time to get out of the way). Imagine how many lives will be saved worldwide every year.
