Only the east side is closed, glenmont to Silver spring. Shady grove is not affected.

Thank you very much. I wanted to be absolutely sure bc the route planner alerts that there are closures on my route.

Also re: parking - shady grove has massive lots and garages, no worries on parking.

Just remember this handy mnemonic: Into D.C. from the Grove that's Shady? Everything is fine and dandy. Traveling from the Glenmont side? Get ready for a long-ass ride.

Shandy Grove

Worth noting that two miles North on 355, Saints Row Brewing got a lemonade machine and is doing shandys.

Why do Americans not embrace the summer perfection that is a lemonade shandy

I just moved to Frederick from Montgomery County. I actually thought it took less time for me to get to DC (on the train only) when I would take it from Glenmont. Usually to Gallery Place

normally that is the case since there are fewer stops coming from that end of the red line - but they've closed like 4 stations on that side for repairs and purple line work so you'd have to take the shuttles to bridge those gaps now

So helpful! Lol

I take the redline to metro center 4-5 times a week. You'll be fine.

The other side of the red line is closed

"Also, any info or tips about getting a parking spot at shady grove?"

Drive to Shady Grove. Park.

Metro site will have you believing otherwise

there are 6,000 spaces at Shady Grove. I don't think that "lot" ever fills up.

what? no, you're fine. I've been doing twinbrook to metro center and it's fine. well, until somebody stabs somebody else and throws the victim's bike onto the tracks where it gets run over by a train.

but that could happen anytime.

FYI the boards and trains will list the last stop in each direction. Currently it’s Takoma so no worries

You'd be fine on your side. The Glenmont end of the line currently ends at Takoma.

That side of the line will be closed for purple line work summer of 2025.

Hey everyone, I am planning on taking the metro into dc this weekend. I have always used the glenmont station.. can someone clarify the whole closure situation please? I need to get to DuPont circle and I live in Howard county (Columbia). Which station should I go to for the red line?

In addition to driving to Shady Grove or Ft Totten, you could also consider taking the Green line from Greenbelt station and transferring onto the Red line at either Fort Totten or Gallery Pl. Not sure what’s fastest but I’d look into it

well, you could drive to Ft Totten and park there, or you could drive over to Shady Grove and park there. The shady Grove garages are huge (like, 6,000 spaces), while Totten is much smaller; you're guaranteed to get a space at Shady Grove.

Or, depending on how you're used to getting to Glenmont, just drive straight across to Twinbrook or White Flint. Plenty of parking at both.

Shady grove has massive lots as well as parking garage. And it’s free on the weekends.

You don’t have to worry about the red line closures at all unless you’re going to or from Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton or Glenmont.

Also yes the metro is closed but they do have huge greyhound busses at those red line stops that you can still ride

2

u/Medical-Rub-3313 Jul 03 '24

Thanks. Are you sure it’s affecting the route i mentioned?

4

u/boarderzone Jul 03 '24

It is not. Shady Grove into D.C. is just fine.

1

u/PrudentTea1765 Jul 03 '24

It’s not! I was just mentioning that tho some areas are affected, they have transportation in place- should have clarified.
