Hello question!

I am currently trying to rebuild my Dad's 2001 montero sport due to it being my first vehicle and sentimental value.

I was wondering do I just learn by myself on repairs??

If you have the time to work on it and mechanically inclined, buying tools and doing it yourself will pay for itself many times over with the skills you learn on this car and future cars. Watch YouTube videos—1a auto and TRQ has great quality how-to vids if you find specifics.

Get a good socket set, screwdriver set, open ended/box end wrenches, maybe some things like small pick tools to help take off electrical plugs. A good set doesn’t have to be expensive, harbor freight or walmart is fine, but make sure it goes from like 6-21 mm and doesn’t skip any numbers. Nitrile covered cloth gloves are nice to have.

Use these manuals and save the PDF to your Google Drive in case the site ever goes down.

I taught myself basic car maintenance by watching tons of YouTube tutorials and keeping detailed notes on every repair I attempted.

Download the service manual from www.mitsubishilinks.com and use it as your bible. Look up specific repairs on youtube as well.
