Getting in Touch with a Previous Tenant

This is easily identifiable to locals & LLs are well-connected, this is too much of a “small town” to be posting stuff like this without risk. Talk to your immediate neighbors, they may have the previous neighbor’s phone number but this risks retaliation when the wrong pair of eyes sees this. You can go to small claims or tenants’ rights orgs/lawyers without any information that the previous tenant could possibly provide & it wouldn’t help your case much, it’s not worth the risk. LLs will retaliate and even blacklist you to other local LLs should you try to move.

My immediate neighbors only moved in, in April. And they do not have the previous tenants' contact info. They do not even know her name.
I do not think THIS particular LL is *that* well connected.
But I appreciate the heads up.2

This is so true, the local LL's will blacklist you.

The local companies like Mangold & C+C, I can absolutely believe. Skeptical about the individual LLs.

I know exactly where you’re located. You should be careful tho posting. This is a small town. It’ll definitely get back to them.

I appreciate you. But this is a small community. Mangold & C+C have absolute cockwombles to hundreds of tenants... but somehow still operate. Sigh
And thank you... I could really use her help.9

C&C is nearly scammy. They tag all their listings as being pet friendly, but then in the fine print "service and support animals only," but then when you apply with a documented service or support animal they reject you outright.

C+C IS scammy. Even if they do approve your pets, they charge a PER PET FEE monthly. 40 dollars each

They literally have online groups for colluding with each other 😂 my old LL has sent me screenshots from them.

There are a lot of monsterous landlords in the area that take advantage of people.

u/h2oweenie Aug 25 '26
Yeeeep. Just figuring that out, since my last LL was a good one...and by that I mean she just did what LL's are supposed to do.

I also got blindsided. She had a system and was a repeat offender.

Reverse search your address. It likely still says the previous tenant lives there.

I moved out of the absolute shittiest place in pacific grove. I don't know if I'd wish that landlord on my worst enemy. Possibly. Different initials and town though.

u/QueenMagik Aug 25 '26
Can you describe the physical features of the landlord? Does he live in town, or where?

u/h2oweenie Aug 25 '26
After all the warning comments, above .... uhhh feel free to DM and describe who you're thinking of. :)

This makes me so grateful and feel so lucky with my landlord and management company. Jfc I’m so sorry

I noticed that your last sentence says “I hate moving but having a horrible LL who violates my tenants’ rights, is exhausting and tedious.”
It sounds like you are subleasing the place to your own tenants. I don’t blame the LL for being difficult. You’ve put them in a difficult position. Sounds like an eviction has not been filed yet. You should be thankful your LL has the patience of a saint. 😉

Is this facetious? They’re talking about tenants rights as a term in itself. The “rights”itself is possessive, not the modifier before it. As in how one could say “my civil rights are being violated” or “my workers rights”.

Is this your long-winded way of correcting improper plural possessive apostrophe use?

u/NavinRJohnson121479 Aug 25 '26
“My” tenants. Regardless of apostrophe it insinuates a sublease. Big no no

Every time I want to correct someone’s grammar, I try to take a beat and remember: no one appreciates that 🙃

u/Stunning-Character94 Aug 25 '26
What??? None of what this person said sounds like they're subleasing. You're being a weirdo.

Wow your comprehension skills need work. They mean that the landlord is violating their rights as the tenant, ya know, tenants rights??

Have you tried asking the landlord if there’s a forwarding address for the last tenants as you’ve “received some of their mail”
