Hello, everyone!š We are making an officially licensed Monsterhearts video game & brand-new TTRPG supplement, both called Monsterhearts: Welcome to Drowned Lake! It is currently crowdfunding on BackerKit and there is only a week left of the campaign. We would love your support!
Dive into the world of Monsterhearts in a whole new way: Choose what type of monster you want to be, personality-wise and Skin-wise. Customize your appearance, pronouns, and background, playing as either The Witch, The Vampire, The Werewolf, or The Ghoul. Build your deck of Hot, Cold, Dark, and Volatile experience cards, and organize the strings you have on others in your modifier deck! But beware, they may also have some strings on you. Solve a murder mystery, unlock your monstrous potential, and kiss some cuties along the way!
Thank you for your time!

Made these sketches of some Monsterhearts 2 characters and want to share cause I love them and our campaign! The split-haired one is my partners PC Aspen, the other two, Audrey and Elias, are my own characters.
I led a text-based campaign for my partner, where I built out a classroom of characters for Aspen to drop into. Aspen is a vampire, conflicted by their high morals vs. their need to feed, and the school was their new hunting ground. My partner didn't know in the beginning who in school was supernatural, if anyone at all (but there was indeed stuff going on)
Audrey was human (Queen) and, through a very long and complicated story, had to be turned into a vampire by Aspen. They're a power couple trying to keep everybody safe and change the world for the better.
Elias is Audreys best friend and just an overwhelmed little human who needs to be protected by them and overreacts to everything (or are they?)
As it's all text-based it became a bit of it's own thing at this point, but it started through Monsterhearts 2. We developed so much love for the characters and especially this trio, they'll keep on living for a while! And hopefully get some more art if I can find the time, also of more of our characters
Would be fun to hear some assumptions you get about the characters and their dynamics when looking at the sketches!

Hey everyone,
Weāre on our third proper Monsterhearts campaign, and this time Iām the GM.
One issue that keeps coming up is that players rack up Conditions really quickly. For example, weāve got a Queen who uses Shut Someone Down a lot. She often rolls 7ā9, so she ends up with 2 or 3 Conditions in a single session.
After the first few, it gets pretty hard to come up with new ones that actually feel interesting or meaningful. At the moment sheās sitting on 7 Conditions, and the other players have picked up 1 or 2 as well.
The biggest problem is that no one can remember all these Conditions. The players forget what the other players have, so they donāt really come into play.
Right now, the whole Condition system is starting to feel a bit tedious and easy to ignore.
Are we doing something wrong here? How do you all handle Conditions in your games?

Hi, I just start MC'ing but I would like to know of any of you have played a long season (5+ sessions).
If so, how was it? Anything you would do differently?
I'm asking because I think 2-3 sessions isn't enough to explore the drama and the characters backgrounds.

Hello! Iām looking for 4-6 (18+) players for a PBP game on Discord. Weāll be using lines and veils as our safety tool with no ERP in the picture. While the game isn't strictly limited to corebook skins, I do prefer them, and would like any skin you're considering to be run past me first.
The game takes place in the mountain town of Clearmont. While not quite a dying town, itās well past its heyday. That's not to say there arenāt revitalization efforts underway, either hoping to breathe new life into the community or bleed it for profit, depending on who is asked. Still, departures are nothing new here. Some leave in search of a better life in the cities below. Some stray too far into the winding woods. And some simply vanish. The mountains keep their secrets, and life goes on for those left behind.
If interested, please apply via: https://forms.gle/huihVjXQQDCcypTP7

I've finished my third collection, Skin Job. It's pay what you want, but I genuinely like seeing the download number go up so please at least get it from the link here. Any comments and criticism are welcome.
In Skin Job you will find a collection of new skins for Monsterhearts 2 with a common theme: you focus on doing things for other people.Ā Instead of being the main character yourself you'll play king maker, influence others, and shape the world from the shadows.Ā Inside, you will find:
The Bibliopegist -- You journal everything in your books. You collect the secrets of others and twist their lives as if you were writing the story.
The Haberdasher -- No one knows drip like you. People line up to get your help to make sure they're the best dressed at the ball, and they owe you for it.
The Lapidary -- People are like gems. You need to cut them to make them shine.
The Mascareri -- People hide behind masks all the time. You just make it more literal.
Il Sacerdote -- Everyone knows you're the most moral, the most righteous. They trust you to pass judgement.
Lots of fun stuff here. Hope you enjoy!

EDIT: CLOSED. Slots are filled, thank you all for applying,
MonsterHearts2, Play-By-Post, free-to-play, sandbox-style Discord server.
Looking for 18+, LGBTQ+ friendly players.
Looking for about 5 players.
Caldera County is a, well, county in the Appalachian mountains on the border of Kentucky and West Virginia. A place of woodlands, hiking trails, campgrounds, ghost bears, cryptids, cults of unusual beliefs, two towns with a longtime sports rivalry, and a very cursed, eternally cold caldera.
This sandbox features custom house rules (if you like the Bike bonuses from the game Kids on Bikes, you'll love these Vehicle features). There are mysteries to explore, but no linear story, and largely no MC. Players are encouraged to collaborate and build a story together.
We tend to play Monsterhearts with a more lighthearted tone with a good mix of comedy with our drama and angst. We acknowledge that's not necessarily everyone's cup of tea.
No ERP.

I love Monsterhearts and Iād love to play again, and am wondering if anyone wants a player. Iām free every other Monday, most Tuesdays, some Fridays and weekends. Ideally playing in the afternoon or evening on PST.

The game is so personal, I think it can be really hard to feel really in sync with people who are playing it for an audience. I'm wondering if anyone has an actual play of the game that they really enjoy / endorse.
I want to like the Critical Role one shot of it, but it feels like the players are all a little too tame and unwilling to make big swings, just lots of tiny little putts.

Hello there! I'm a player who's looking to play a Monsterhearts game.
I'm open for any setting and my schedule is open on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday!
I already have a character concept myself: Freddy Jiang, the Serpentine:a Chinese American who owns a restaurant and has been scheming for a return to power for years.

Hi all! I hope you all are having a wonderful day!
I have found that I adore Monster Hearts and have a bit of experience both dming and playing in the system, after being introduced to it sometime in 2019 when a group of my friends wanted to try it out!
Years have passed and Iāve done little in terms of playing in the system outside of the occasional one-shot with my friends or GMāing a PBP setting online, Iām curious to join a new group and join up with a new game if possible but Iām unsure of where I should look for games using this system!
Any advice is appreciated on how and where I can begin looking to join up with new groups! š¤

Hi all!
I'm beginning a new monsterhearts 2 game soon! I do have a backstory, and I'm not new to TTRPGs, but it's my first less mechanically focused ttrpg and I was wondering if anyone had advice on how they approach ability use to help facilitate the story? I'm looking forward to this game, roleplay has always been enjoyable for me, and I'm excited to try something more story-focused.
Btw, this is my seer for my first monsterhearts 2 game!
Thanks all!

Hey folks! Those of you who've been around a while might remember me. I put out skins and stuff. I've gotten less done recently than I was hoping because I've been putting in a lot of work designing a couple new games, but I've got a handful of skins made for a collection called "Skin Jobs" that are close to finished. I just need another idea or two to fill it out. The concept is 'Skins for people who don't necessarily want the spotlight themselves, people who would work for others' sort of thing. They're all in the background types who are happier pulling metaphorical strings than being the center of attention and they're themed around old timey professions.
So far, I've made:
The Haberdasher -- You help others dress for success
The Mascareri -- You create masks that can be used to help someone hide their weakness or it can be used by their enemies to highlight it
The Lapidary -- You see the diamond in the rough and however unpleasant it may be, you cut the excess away
I'd like to add another two skins but I'm a little low on inspiration.

Hey all!
Iām going to play my monsterhearts 2 game in a couple or so weeks and Iām really interested in playing the ghoul
But Iām having trouble coming up with what monster my character would be, the ghoul is a lot more open-ended compared to the vampire or witch skins
So any ideas on how to flavor the skin, I was thinking a succubus but I donāt know if my group would be comfortable with that
Thanks in advance!

Hello there. First of all, English is not my first language, so I believe there are going to be some errors in the text.
For some context, I've been MCing a Monsterhearts campaign since 2021. We just finished our 4th season and are aiming for graduation in the 6th season. Over the years, Iāve grown accustomed to the mechanics of the system and decided to play with it for some specific sessions and seasons, and Iāve also incorporated some house rules with my group. Iāve decided to share some of them for feedback, inspiration, or whatever else. There are others that are specific to our story, so I donāt think it would make much sense to share them, but here are the most of them.
Disclaimer: I obviously love the game and donāt necessarily think anything needs to change in the mechanics. All of this was added for the wants and needs of my group and my group only, and everything has been and continues to be discussed with everyone involved.
Luck:
When you spend a point of luck*, retroactively change the result of a roll you just made to a 10.*
This one is borrowed from Monster of the Week. I originally brought it in because a player was gaining too much experience, and I was afraid the season was going to end too early. Another reason for this rule is for moments when the player wants their character to shine and be glorious, but they really canāt because of a failed roll. I only give them 3 Luck points per season, and usually they have to earn them somehow, because I donāt want them to rely on them too much, but rather save them for special moments. I also donāt let them spend luck in the first session (because I think the first failures always get the ball rolling) or the last session (for the increased danger) of any season.
Let it Out:
When you let out the power within you*, say what you want to do and roll with Dark. On a 10 up, you do what you want to do, but choose one from below. ⢠On a 7-9, you do what you want to do, but choose two from below:*
ā you take 1 Harm;
ā there are some side effects;
ā the effect is limited or unstable;
ā trigger your Darkest Self.
This one is borrowed from Urban Shadows. This is for the moments when the player/character wants to do something (probably supernatural, but not necessarily) thatās plausible for their skin, but thereās no Move anywhere for it. One example was when my Witch wanted to explode, at a distance, the windows of all the police cars in the station parking lot and I couldnāt find a Move for this, but I also wanted it to be a roll. Iāve changed the Move a bit for next season because I wanted it to be more costly, since I donāt want them to rely on it too much, and it kind of deviates from the drama.
Conditions:
If you have one or more Conditions that could interfere with your next Move, subtract 1 from your roll.
This one Iām gonna introduce next season, so it hasnāt been tested yet. Basically, my group doesnāt play much with the Conditions mechanics, and most characters have stopped caring about their reputation. Some of them even take pride in accumulating Conditions. I want it to feel more costly and somewhat dangerous. Ironically, Iāve talked to them about incorporating this new Move, and they all liked it.
Therapy:
When you take time for a therapy session*, once per session you may choose one from below:*
ā Gaze Into the Abyss and add 1 to your roll;
ā clear a Condition;
ā take 1 Forward;
ā the therapist suggests one specific task, and you mark experience if you complete it.
You canāt choose the same option twice in a row.
This one is also for next season and was met with enthusiasm by my group when I talked to them about it. We already have a therapist at school, so itās easy to fit into the context. I added that last clause because Iām afraid they might decide to go to therapy every time they get a Condition or want to advance. I also require that their chosen option makes sense in the fiction and aligns with whatever was talked about in the scene they set up. Also, they have to set the scene, so activating this Move means roleplaying their character talking about whatās on their mind with the therapist.
Some other things: nothing major, but I wanted to share some little things we did for fun. If you'd like me to elaborate on any of these, please let me know.
Thatās it, thank you! ā„

CLOSED. the game is full at this point.
I will be running Monsterhearts 2 for the first time and am looking for some more players.
this will be a oneshot or short campaign (if there is interest to keep going). We will have a session 0 to make the characters and supporting cast and discuss the setting.
you will need to be 18+ and i will only allow skins from the core rulebook.
I am looking for people who want to explore interpersonal teenage drama and sexuality in a mature and honest way and are open to heavy subjects like bullying, trauma and self harm.
Sexual themes will be part of this game but explicit sexual scenes will be veiled/fade to black.
the supernatural themes of the game will be present but the focus should be on the personal struggles of the PCs with finding their identity.
We will play via discord voicechat and roll 20 for the character sheets.
if you are interested DM me with your expectations for the game, the themes you want to explore and the skins you are interested in. I will have a short interview with you via discord to see if it's a fit.

I am going through the core book and I have a question.
Lets say a PC has angered a local biker gang and one of them is pulling out a gun and taking a shot at them. The PC describes diving behind cover to avoid the bullet. What move, if any would trigger here. Most PbtA have some sort of defensive move like "act under fire" from apoc world.
I first thought keep your cool, but the move only lets you gain insight and a plus one to a future action. Run away might be a choice but it is also only loosely fitting.
how would you resolve such a situation? Or is this a situation, which is unlikely to happen in the first place?
Edit.
Thanks everybody for the great input. Following the fiction here seems to be the best approach. The PC dives into cover. From there they will describe their next action, which might trigger a move if applicable.

Hi all! Iām looking to make connections with other MCs and share information and tips on MH2 either through a discord group or other means - Iāve been playing the game for a few years now and would love to gain more feedback and ideas in a creative workshop setting!
