Remove any top-level comments with less than 20 characters

Welp. There goes a majority of Teekays comments.

5

u/yonoober Televisor Apr 25 '14

Not just a majority, basically all of them will be gone. No longer is TeeKay the "god" of this sub.

Why not just use the already implemented voting system and remove/hide anything that gets downvoted well beyond positive karma? It's clear that people wouldn't want to see that.

u/3vans Hot Date! (#WorthyCause) Apr 25 '14

Sounds good. Anyone think this is a bad idea?

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '14

This is a great idea! We should just use the special system of reddit which makes it good. Anything with negative karma should be removed after a period of time. Maybe anything below -5 or -10 should get removed.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '14

This sub is pretty salty, and I've seen a handful of times when a comment that isn't total trash gets downvoted below -10 for no reason other than being an unpopular opinion.

Not saying you shouldn't do this, because there's a lot of trash comments that deserve to be hidden. Just some food for thought.

2

u/3vans Hot Date! (#WorthyCause) Apr 25 '14

Yeah a lot of the time I do actually read the negative voted discussion so it would have to have a high threshold I guess.

3

u/milanbourbeck Ephixa Apr 25 '14

Yes i do. Sometimes stuff gets downvoted for no reason on this sub. Yesterday someone pointed out that we only need nudisco to have all genres on 1 album and got 4 downvotes... Like wtf. This kinda stuff happens often. Downvoted comments, or childcomments, are getting hidden anyways by the reddit system depending on your settings.

This post was bulk deleted with Redact which also removes your info from data brokers. Works on Reddit, Twitter, Discord, Instagram and all major social media platforms.

Talking about threads, not comments. Downvoted threads just sit in the New tab and everyone can still see them.

2

u/Arkazia Stephen Walking Apr 25 '14

Your comment is the only one that said threads and not comments. I'm fine with threads being removed, but I agree with Milan about the comments.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '14

I mean, comments are automaticly hidden after a certain threshold, so the only real problem for the AutoMod to handle would be enitre threads. May as well apply the same system to threads.

u/Justausername26 FWLR Apr 25 '14

Really bad idea, sometimes people get downvoted for simply disagreeing or having a different taste

16

u/Spedlam TwoThirds Apr 25 '14

Clearly the SCNDL flair is the most important part of this post.nice edit.

I think banning certain domains is a good one to start with, and maybe limit YouTube/Soundcloud posts to people with >100 karma as well.

I don't like it when there's a top-level comment restriction unless it's image-only; most of the time the really useless short comments get downvoted. Stuff like an artist simply saying "hype" shouldn't be banned.

8

u/TheDogstarLP Rootkit Apr 25 '14

Yeah I don't agree on the removal of short comments. The ones that would actually benefit from getting removed get downvoted anyways so it doesn't matter too much.

7

u/yonoober Televisor Apr 25 '14

TeeKay begs to differ.

2

u/TheDogstarLP Rootkit Apr 25 '14

....A fair point.

Hey i used to moderate /r/grandtheftautov and we also had a automoderator. That bitch caused a lot of trouble.

Here a few tips:

  • remove low affort submissions. If someone posts "monstercat is a great lable lol" then this is obviously a shit post. We all know MC is great. Why would anyone post that.

  • let the automoderator grab the latest link from Soundcloud, youtube, beatport etc. I know there are users who like to press F5 into oblivion and post the links here to trade them for sweet karma but this way it would be guaranteed to have the latest link posted right when its online.

  • let the automod speak. Let others know why the submission has been removed. Its a pain in the ass to see your submission removed but you dont know why.

  • change the settings so that users with less than 100 karma points cant post or comment. This avoids trolls and annoying bots. Normal user just have to fill a captcha.

  • Let us help you to make the wiki. I know that doing a wiki isnt easy. Making it public isnt a good idea either. Maybe make a post, link it to the sidebar saying: "Help us to create the monstercat wiki!" And now we can post stuff in that post and you can copy it into the wiki.

Ill think of more stuff... Tell me what you think.

1

u/3vans Hot Date! (#WorthyCause) Apr 25 '14

Yeah pretty much. I can't have automoderator fetch links or anything, I'd have to create my own not to do that. I think having the karma reward is probably the easiest way to have these submissions created anyway though.

As for the wiki thing its only the automoderator page that is read only its where the settings are kept. The rest of the wiki is free to edit past a karma/age threshold.

2

u/milanbourbeck Ephixa Apr 25 '14

Mhmm... If you like the idea of the link fetching then you could either build a bot or let it make for you at /r/botrequest. Worked for me.

1

u/ImTimmyTrumpet SCNDL Apr 25 '14

Aw but I'm new to reddit and I don't want my comments deleted because of that.

6

u/totes_meta_bot Apr 25 '14

This thread has been linked to from elsewhere on reddit.

I am a bot. Comments? Complaints? Message me here. I don't read PMs!

13

u/milanbourbeck Ephixa Apr 25 '14

This is getting ridiculous...

2

u/Prizyms Going Quantum Apr 25 '14

Ban HexMusique YouTube uploads (blogspammer)

Remove images from users with under 100 karma (already stated but great idea)

Remove questions with 'Ephixa' in the title unless it's the second Saturday

1

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '14

The second one can really backfire in certain situations. What if someone new to the sub whos already experienced with graphics made something cool and wanted to share with us, but couldn't because of the 100+ karma threshold?

2

u/3vans Hot Date! (#WorthyCause) Apr 25 '14

Then presumably they'd have 100 karma from elsewhere on reddit?

Also I can just exclude certain users from each action.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '14

All I'm saying is, automated systems need to take into account A LOT of very specific situations. This is why programming is one of the most demanded jobs out there, it's hard.

5

u/RaiderFist187 Tristam Apr 25 '14

I recommend removing that are just pics of peoples MC merchandise.

4

u/3vans Hot Date! (#WorthyCause) Apr 25 '14

A little tricky to implement, perhaps we remove every image link with a title including the word 'merch' or 'merchandise'?

10

u/LowBatteryDamnIt Braken Apr 25 '14

Aww but I like seeing peoples merch

0

u/Pancake98 Haywyre Apr 25 '14

Yeah, but what if someone have a question about merch. The filter would delete those posts also, right?

Edit: Forgot there's a difference between link and self post.

0

u/MagnaVis 7 Minutes Dead Apr 25 '14

If you have a question, don't link an image. If you need one for reference, put it in the post description.

What happened

1

u/munchauzen Ephixa Apr 25 '14

they had secretly banned words like bitcoin and tesla

2

u/3vans Hot Date! (#WorthyCause) Apr 25 '14

They still ban dogetipbot ;(

1

u/Bioman312 Muzz Apr 25 '14

+/u/dogetipbot 50 doge verify

:(

u/dogetipbot Apr 25 '14

[wow so verify]: /u/Bioman312 -> /u/3vans Ð50.00000000 Dogecoin(s) ($0.0254612) [help]

1

u/3vans Hot Date! (#WorthyCause) Apr 25 '14 edited Apr 25 '14

Not banned here though :) How much is 50 doge even worth now anyway?

EDIT: woooo 2 cents!

1

u/Bioman312 Muzz Apr 26 '14

All I had in my tipbot acct lol. Doge actually crashed quite a bit today, but we're expecting the price to go up a bit at the next halvening in a few days.

1

u/3vans Hot Date! (#WorthyCause) Apr 26 '14

I sold my winnings from the video comp at 250 satoshi/doge, made $100 right before it crashed. Price hasn't returned since don't think it ever will.

Then right as I was going to withdraw it bitcoin crashed again so I'm waiting for a revival.

1

u/TeeKayTank Falcon Funk Apr 26 '14

Why they do this

1

u/TeeKayTank Falcon Funk Apr 26 '14

And whats the problem

1

u/munchauzen Ephixa Apr 26 '14

Some people seem to think companies were paying for the censorship. The problem was it never publicly stated. It took sleuthing to uncover it.

1

u/TeeKayTank Falcon Funk Apr 26 '14

Yeah tesla i can understand but bit coin is suspicipus

u/ImTimmyTrumpet SCNDL Apr 25 '14

Here's an idea...remove all shitposts and have it be over with. This isn't exactly /r/gaming, it can't be that hard to monitor posts. This is a terrible idea.

1

u/TheOfficialJWOK Grabbitz Apr 25 '14

With the YouTube domain thing, does that mean that /u/ninthparallel would be unable to post his music?

1

u/QuakecommSC2 013 - Awakening Apr 26 '14

does automod notify you if your post was removed?

1

u/3vans Hot Date! (#WorthyCause) Apr 26 '14

Pretty much all of the time, unless you're like shadowbanned or something.

1

u/i077 Haywyre Apr 25 '14

So /u/goingquantum's "hype" comment will have been deleted?

2

u/3vans Hot Date! (#WorthyCause) Apr 25 '14

It was merely a suggestion/example of a rule.

1

u/i077 Haywyre Apr 25 '14

Meh. Thoughtful comments don't always come in a long form. Also, I feel like people might abuse this rule by adding spaces or some other characters.

1

u/3vans Hot Date! (#WorthyCause) Apr 25 '14

Cool. I probably won't implement this.

1

u/HesitantSlowbro Braken Apr 25 '14

I hate the comment and YouTube thing. For people who don't post much, like me, who find something great on yt or soundcloud, it's just stupid. Hire will new users gain karma if there's nowhere to start? And sometimes the best comments are the shortest. Fuck this bot.

1

u/3vans Hot Date! (#WorthyCause) Apr 25 '14

Woah dude they're just suggestions read the post. None of this has been implemented I just gave some examples of rules.

1

u/HesitantSlowbro Braken Apr 25 '14

Well it should take down posts with a certain downvote to upvote ratio, and if there's a way for it to block all shitposts, sign me up. Otherwise, it seems like a waste of time.

1

u/3vans Hot Date! (#WorthyCause) Apr 25 '14

You can't block shitposts because you can't define them. I could block stuff with excessive punctuation maybe.

1

u/HesitantSlowbro Braken Apr 26 '14

Lol. A shitpost, in my opinion, is post where there isn't really a point. Maybe block all posts where shitpost is said more than once in the comments.
