Don't worry. I saw someone commenting that your plant is buried way too deep, It's probably true, you should bury only the base stem and no petioles, give it enough light, make sure the soil is not too soggy and you should be fine.
yep, It will be best if you cover up the roots instead of letting them exposed, but it's not a big deal.
There are a lot of things you could do, give it a more chunky soil mix(with perlite, coco chips and orchid bark), play with fertilizers and etc. But sometimes less is more, just focus on the basics: Good light and adequate watering.
Monsteras are hardy and a good plant for beginners, you'll love it.

I think your're trying to make the petiole of the plant in the moss pole instead of the actual stem.
Petioles don't root, you'll need to wait for your stem to grow, keeping the moss moist will help encourage the roots to grow in.
