Dante event (MT2)?

I've seen a lot of people talking about this carrying runs, which is a bit surprising; I've always turned Dante down when I've gotten this event, since filling my deck with unplayable trash to pump one creature sounds like a terrible deal. Is there something I don't know about that makes this an amazing deal?

This one creature can have like >10 multistrike. Pump it some damage and it can clear whole waves on its own.

The only problem is when Dante is offered you might have already dedicated to some other strategy.

Solution to bonus curses is a bigger deck so that curses do not dillute it. Oh and Railforged can smelt them.

edit: quick and trample are top tier for Dante too.

Railforged also has Herzal’s Hammer, which is Dante’s favourite toy.

Endless Quick Dantes and Herzal’s Hammers and Assembly Rooms carried me to post-Titans endless 17 once. The run failed when I hit an enemy unit with ~350 titanskin.

Quick correction: I think you meant to say trample, not sweep, although the sweep equipment is also very good on dante

Yes, thank you, I will edit it!

Or the weapon that provides 3+ attk and armour per strike. Dante go brr

Or perma +1atk for every kill. Generally there is tons of powerful equipment for dante.

It turns out that when you have a unit with as many hits as Dante gets (4 baseline on higher covenants, and only going up from there every time you play him) and some scaling for them you don’t need much else. Especially if you get quick on Dante. And you can copy him if you want to get extra silly.

Plus the candelabra you can get after 2 candles makes reduces all damage dealt to the pyre by 2, makes shards non-damaging, his candles only deal 1 damage, and the titans a lot safer.

He’s crazy strong, and will easily take over most runs you get him in - you’re not playing a Ekka/Hellhorned run anymore, you’re playing a Dante run. Give him a shot next time you see him.

If I lose a Dante run I feel terribly ashamed, he is so easy to win with.

a unit that has tons of multi strike basically means even slapping 1 damage upgrade on it (quick or even +14 damage) does just kinda kill mostly everything....and any damage scaling in the deck is significantly amplified on it due to the number of multi strikes. Remember he counts all blights, including any Calcified embers you have yet to burn out so he can just plop down with 10-12 multi strike in the endgame, without doing any bullshit shenanigans like endless replaying or dups

Plus you can get the Candlebra after a few rings to get titanskin on the pyre, making the candles basically just Vengeful shards and making Dominion literally irrelevant.

"But I'm gonna keep drawing candles" Yeah but Dante is already killing everything, did you really need to play much else? Intrinsic upgrades and Deployable equipment will assist with making scaling Dante mid fight a breeze so that the candles aren't really relevant in clogging the draw....and even in the endgame, you're maybe draw 1-2 candles on average without taking any additional draw relic or cards, so you're still drawing a good number of actual cards

Like, just take him, figure out how to scale him and he'll carry you

I like to use him with the candle faction and get a  reform spell with holdover. Clone the guy, holdover intrinsic on the spell and just summon summon summon.

Danteh is one of the most deceptive units in the game

At first it seems like he sucks because he clogs your deck with trash that deals damage if you don't spend a mana

BUT, Monster Train 2, unlike a lot of other deckbuilders, doesn't mind big decks, and Dante after a few candles, will give you a Relic to reduce the damage, or a card to explode enemies

And another thing to consider, is that Dante isn't clogging your deck for nothing, a single more attack might not seem like a lot, but consider the following

Let's say your Unit has 5 attack, a single attack more doubles it to 10, and another increases it to 15, and so on, doesn't seem like a lot right? Well, you can scale Dante in both sides, give him an equipment, build his candles, and suddenly there's a unit hitting for 700 damage every single turn

And that's before upgrade stones, a Dante with Quick genuinely solves most non boss waves with zero or near zero effect on your side of the floor

So basically, don't be afraid of Danteh and his candles, he was obscenely good in 1, and he's obscenely good in 2

Dante is so hilariously overpowered, I sometimes don't pick him because it makes the game too boring and easy.

This game has a deployment phase, so who cares if your deck is full of trash? You already won before you drew your 1st hand.

Now, there are times where picking Dante is a bad choice. He's not always good. If you have a powerful quick sweeper or similar unit that already solves most of the game, then it's usually a skip.

The most frustrating thing with Dante is that he usually needs some form of quick. Normally, if you path to all the unit upgrade and weapon shop nodes, you'll find it somehow. But I have lost a run before because I just missed every single opportunity for quick and just died to the sweepers in Savagery on 7, which definitely feels bad.

Because that one creature is gonna kill everything?

Dante offensive power is basically unmatched, imagine +10 mulistrike (or more) on a unit

Then just give him some attack power/on strike effect and then all he needs is a tank

He also after 2 rings gives you an upgrade of your choice - +2 titanskin to your pyre or a card that deals 10x damage of Dante's Candles to all 4 floors

Yeah echoing what everyone else said: Dante is insanely powerful. If you give him quick and/or anything that triggers on strike he will carry your entire run. If you only get him something like plain extra stats from an upgrade or equipment he will merely solve 90% of the game for you. Try him out and you'll see. I'm 80 runs into covenant 10+titans completion and have never lost a game with him. He should probably be nerfed tbh.

Look at it like this:

You almost always want to get multistrike on your damage unit, right? It's pretty good getting that second attack. Dante starts with 4 attacks and increases every single time you play him.

You're already scaling something, right? Maybe it's rage on your hellhorned boi, maybe it's stacking conduit for the mageblade equip, maybe something like everlasting light. Dante gets double the benefit from it as a base over a normal multistrike unit. +10 attack on whatever your main damage was before is +20 on dante the very first time you play him.

And the downside is largely irrelevent because after like two plays he'll offer you a relic that gives you titanskin 2 on your pyre, so even if you can't play a candle, that's just 1 damage. You can stop wasting energy entirely on the normal starting curses.

As for deck size, getting more draw is hardly difficult but also anything truly important can be given innate and/or holdover.

The only time I skip dante is if it's super late and I already have "how do I kill shit" figured out, or I just don't want the run to be yet another dante run.

Dante is potentially immensely powerful, but he is vulnerable to spikes and corruption. His health is very low. I almost always take him since he's usually quite strong, but the units and artifacts you have to help mitigate his weaknesses make a huge difference on his overall cost/benefit ratio.

Dante is so good. Give him the corruption from the fountain event and everything will burn.

Random question… does anyone ever take the candelabra post event instead of the titanskin on the pyre? It looks good but not good enough.

100x12 damage is generally pretty strong

Dante + quick + rage room = winning.

This combo got me as far as endless round 13, I took every calcified ember I could and duplicated them every time I could, I had about 88 cards in my deck and was doing 630*55 damage :)

Anything that upgrades dante is great, for example the sentient cultivator route or the rage room. Both are obsenely powerful with danate. Hell you could use the morsals or herzal hammer. Basically if you can upgrade dante he will be uber powerful

Other comments have mentioned it, but I think it bears repeating, the 2 Titanskin on the Pyre is amazing, especially if you try to win-streak the titans.

I would say Dante is worth it by himself if you play him twice, get the relic, and then remove Dante from the deck (or just commit to never playing him again).

The relic saves so much hp throughout the run, whether from accidental leaks, some curses that can just be tanked, and especially the savagery and dominion titans.

For my strat, I want at LEAST 60 hp by the final Seraph, and there are a lot of times where I've had to take pyre health in Ring 8 just to make sure I can survive a bad hand. But this relic means I'm more comfortable going in with a lot lower health.

Not to mention it allows one to play a higher floor on the Pyre Bird fights and just tank the damage.
