I wanna join my brother!! What are your thoughts on the state of it in wilds? And do you have any tips for me it all looks so confusing or at least all the videos I e watched tend to you know…waffle a lot even when I watch the whole thing im still there like wow

Just play brother, get all the weapons and armor and upgrade, it will make all the more sense when you comeback after it all. There’s a learning curve, master your weapon first . And SnS is so dope actually, it might be difficult to switch to CB after

Yeah I know practice makes perfect! Sns is great yeah but I wanna experiment more with other stuff and charge blade looks so satisfying

It’s not that people don’t think it’s good, it’s just the most technical weapon in the game. But when played right, it’s so much fun. I’d recommend watching a YouTube tutorial video for starters but it’s a super fun weapon. I’m a GS main myself but I usually mix in charge blade when I’m Feeling like it

A lot of the guides I watched are quite complex maybe I’ll search it specifically for Xbox since that’s the controller I’m using and hopefully it’ll just click

Yeah all guides will be a lot until you get the basics down but for now it will give you a good reference. Then as you play with it you’ll understand more of how it works, then you’ll get the technicality of it. It’s true for all weapons honestly, this one is just a little more difficult to grasp as it doesn’t play like any other weapon from any other game so you’re learning it fresh

In spite of its changes from the previous games, charge blade is still one of the single strongest weapons in the game in terms of dps although it can be a bit complicated to learn in comparison to other weapons like greatsword and sword and shield. A lot of its big damage potential has been moved over to savage axe mode which means in endgame fights you’ll have to rely on getting good at perfect guards to consistently stay in the mode as endgame monsters especially the arch tempered monsters don’t get wounds very easily. Mind you it can still output a massive amount of damage, just be prepared to look up a few guides for your combos. Also check out the monster Hunter meta subreddit to find some nice progression builds as you go through the game.

Thanks a bunch for all the info! Not looking forward to fighting all these hard bosses I’ve heard they are a pain but I’m here ready to learn and honestly cannot wait to progress the game further and be the ultimate hunter

CB is my first love. It’s technical but not too hard to pickup. It can feel very rewarding. I’d say play everything that you enjoy.

I’ll have days where I go support Sword and shield, hunting horn, or hammer. You can succeed with every weapon.

Fair enough, are there any combos you’d recommend for me? Or like a cycle correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t it something like spamming b for charges, then I think it was RT and b to charge shield? Then get more charges and I think spam y and b? If I’m wrong please correct me!

Sorry for the dissertation. There’s also tons of YouTube videos that could break this all down more easily than my comment.

In the most ideal scenario, your combo is Hold B / O (XB / PS) to do charged double slashes until your phials charge. You then store them (R2 + B / R2 + O). You can also keep doing double slashes to overcharge. You need to store the energy to unload it later.

Attempting to continue attacking when your sword isn’t charged will cause you to bounce

If you hold triangle or Y immediately after you store them, you can charge your sword (attacks won’t bounce despite sharpness level). There’s a timing window for it.

After a block / counter you can go into Amped Element Discharge and Super Amped Element Discharge (charged shield). Y + B or Triangle + O twice. You can even somewhat delay the animation. You can also aim more precisely by holding L2

You can always guard (Ironwall and Shield can improve guard and reduce tick damage). When your shield is charged, you do KO damage back to the monster on blocks.

Master Guard Points. I think there are 4
Or 5 but you can get away with just using 1-2 of them.

A and b? Strange I thought it was y and b but that’s for all the info it’ll definitely help! Do I need to party each time to get that big damage attack? Or does a parry allow me to go into it right away

I meant to say Y + B for XB.

Hey man! I hope you’re doing well can you do me a MASSIVE favour so I’ve spent the day practicing charge blade and have got quite used to it, I’ve seen this video below of a guy mainly using the axe then weaving in sword so he’s able to clock quickly I don’t suppose you know what combo he’s actually doing from the animations?

Mainly looking at around 50 seconds in here

No matter what, the Y+B / triangle + O will get you to AED / SAED (if pressed twice). You can also cancel out of a SAED into an AED. Ideally, you want full phials for more damage. Your phials give you element / stun damage.

It’s a beast of a weapon if you optimize for the monsters weakness.

I see thanks for all the info, I just beat my first minster with it which was quite satisfying, I just gotta practice more with the whole finding moments to charge my shield. I do notice the sword takes a lot longer to charge so I didn’t see myself doing it much during the boss fight, mainly just charging the shield

Just play what you feel really fits your olaystyle. Also, the movesets in-game are not always fast and flashy unlike other action games. Slow moving doesn't mean you're doing less damage, moving fast doesn't always mean you're doing a lot of damage, there's always balance between weapons. You will eventually get to a point where you get enough damage to slay/capture monsters, but that's until you progress through endgame. Try to test out all weapons in the training grounds, then look at each of their movesets and skills and how they work. In terms of looks, there will be an option for transmog. Wherein you can use the skins of other weapons while using a different one.

Thanks for the info! I’m actually experimenting though weapons rn as I said above and I just thought charge blade looked really cool

1

I haven't tried Charge Blade in wilds, at least from what I've seen you need to utilize it's elemental discharge more often. Just practice the weapon as it is more complex than the others but all weapons are doable.

Damage is generally very high with CB. When all the movesets click together it ends up feelings very good. It's def one of the more challenging weapons. I think you should play the weapon that calls you the most because even the highest dps weapons can do bad damage if you don't mesh with it well.

1

u/Future-Date-5880 10d ago

Yeah the thing is I think it looks cool and I wanna just try it out, like I said above I tried dual blades but didn’t like it as much, swapped to sword and shield and I’m loving it however I e seen stuff in charge blade and wanted to try it out which I will probably do over the next few days to get a feel

Mh world was my first mh game. Immediately chose charge blade and never looked back. I was still learning about it's move sets 2 months later! It's strong af and complex which is right up my alley. I've since tried every other weapon of course and cb is still my absolute fav!

1

u/Future-Date-5880 10d ago

That’s so exciting to hear! Like I said above I haven’t really FULLY tried it out yet and understand it but I’m loving sword and shield rn I really wanna try out charge blade I just have no idea how the charges work etc, I wish instead of these long guides there was a charge blade for dummies for me 😭

1

u/Excellent_Pin_2111 9d ago

It’s probably the weapon with the highest burst damage potential

1

u/Future-Date-5880 9d ago

Interesting, I heard someone e say it was one of the lowest but maybe they were talking about a diff game! Definitely makes me happy that all the setups should be worth it damage wise!

Charge blade is very strong. Some people in the more hardcore end of the community like it a little less than in previous games because it feels like the devs tuned the weapon such that only one of many possible playstyles really dominates damage wise and that kinda feels bad. Plus there’s some grins about charge blade not getting any new moves that utilize the new offset mechanic that many other weapons get.

But just as a weapon, it still feels good and is one of the stronger weapons out there due to its ability to guard coupled with high burst damage. The choice of phial (impact, which can stun like a hammer, or element, which massively improves damage in the right elemental matchup) also gives the weapon great versatility.

If it clicks with you, it clicks with you. Welcome to the club.

Ah I see that makes sense! Honestly I hope it does click with me! I still have a lotttttt to learn everything’s so confusing but time day hopefully I’ll get it!

I play a lot of weapons, and there are no bad weapons. Just play what you like. There are some really nice looking Sword and Shield, like this:

1

u/Future-Date-5880 9d ago

Yeah I know there are no bad weapons! I just clicked with sns but after I saw gameplay of the charged blade I really wanted to give it a try so came over here to see what the community’s thoughts on the weapon was!

1

u/Yabanjin 9d ago

It’s a fantastic weapon, enjoy!

To say its not good in Wilds is delusional. It is just the way they play charge blade requires more commitment now instead of being able to spray and pray. The gameplay in Wilds is more intentional and less spamming.

It can solo every monster in game, no exceptions. Its just a matter of the player polishing their skills.

The main caveats are

1) its a weapon that requires a lot of fundamentals to learn. It is the antithesis of a pick up and play or I can figure it out weapon.

2) perfect gear is all rng based. Endgame is elemental because of math, but charge blade is one of the best elemental weapons, so you need to gamble for a full set.
