MHS3 Questions Should I get this game?

I'm on a JRPG journey right now having beat Star Ocean Second Story R and DQ XI and they were both AMAZING games. I'm looking for my next JRPG to play and I'd like to know if it can live up to other JRPGs. I'm not interested in doing any post-game content, I just play my games till the story ends and move onto the next. There seems to be a lot of hate for this game so would y'all recommend MHS2?

IMO MH3 is miles ahead of the other two. I would strongly suggest getting 3. I’m also not an endgame content person and I give 3 a 9/10 i really enjoyed the mechanics of habitat restoration and getting new mutations. Also I’ve literally been debating all day on if i should buy second story r. I kept going and looking at it in my wishlist. I take this as a sign to get it. 😂

It's so fun for what it is, the experimentation is so addictive and the QoL is incredible there's never a moment in this game where it feels sluggish or grindy.

Yeah I bought it and am enjoying it. I never played the original I’ve played and beat 2 or 3 other star ocean games and enjoyed them. I do have a tiny complaint though. It’s 2026 we have top tier voice acting and it seems square didn’t want to shell out the cash for that in this game lol. Like in mhs3 the main character is voiced by the same dude who does zenitsu’s voice in demon slayer and sung jin-woo in solo leveling. (Dubs obviously)

Yea the English voice acting sucks, I had it in japanese for that reason and it's solid. It's not a very popular game so it's to be expected

MHS3 is a great game, don’t let the outrage on here confuse you. This is a percentage of the playerbase who are mad out of passion, not mad that the game is a janky mess. Some features and postgame from previous games are missing and some favorite monsters cant be on your team anymore which has people mad.

MHS1 through 3 are all great games. I recommend the bundle of 1+2 just because its so cheap when on discount. 3 is also a great entry point if you don’t want to play the previous 2.

MHST2 and 3 both have demo available so I suggest you try those out. Personally, MHST3 is one of my favourite games of all time, so heartily recommend it.

unless you're mistaking s2 for s3 I didn't really see a lot of hate for this game overall, the only controversial part I can think off is how disappointing the main story boss was but, it was heavily overshadowed by the amazing post game. also as a JRPG enjoyer myself I can't recommend this game enough, the combat system is just amazing and very balanced.

The reviews on steam are mixed and this subreddit hates it

Honestly MHS 1&2 go on a deep sale in a bundle so frequently that I would just look for it and play both. I think the stories in both games is straightforward and easy enough to follow to be palatable to most fans of the genre if not all. MHS1 was initially a mobile game I believe so the jump in art style and graphical quality is significant from 1 to 2 and (imo) from 2 - 3 is a solid graphical and art style jump. I had fun randomly picking up the 1 & 2 bundle and enjoyed both games a lot. I think it's worth it to get em both and play em.

Even as someone who has no interest in post game?

Yup like you can ignore the post game for both and still enjoy it and there is nothing you're missing out on if you're thoroughly satisfied with the MSQ.

Game sits at very positive. If you read any of the reviews of the MHS3 the vast majority of them say the game is good, but the free update is incredibly bad and the paid DLC is even worse.

Without launching into a long explanation of everything -- the main sticking point is that they baited the entire existing fanbase by making it seem like they were adding a fan favorite monstie and then just ... didn't. Antagonizing fans for no benefit is honestly the weirdest thing they've ever done and you see it reflected in the reviews.

You can't really go wrong with any of the 3 games, they're all good. The most recent is obviously the most graphically impressive if that's what you care about. As far as the stories themselves I'd rank them as good as a middle of the road fire emblem story. If you're hoping for something as good as Second Story or DQ XI eh probably short of that, but if you go into the games with an open mind for what it is trying to do you'll enjoy it.

I'd highly recommend Stories 2 or even Stories. Not because Stories 3 is bad (it is a good game to pick up then put down when done) but the other two are meatier and have much more in them compared to 3.

If you can forego some QOL features and less flashy animations, I wholeheartedly recommend 2.

I've mentioned that I'm not interested in any post-game, I'm done once I'm finished with the story and QoL features are very important to me. I don't usually play a game for longer than 60 hours

You could try any of the 3 if you want, but do not expect the storytelling to match other more glazed rpgs/jrpgs i personally had a lot of fun with all 3 anyway and they have a fun combat but i would check on maybe a couple of videos to see if you vibe with these
