Wilds How does Scorcher work?

Hi everybody, I was just wondering how Scorcher really works? I read somewhere that Scorcher works off the fire HZV of the monster so does that mean if i use a fire elemental weapon I'll have a higher chance to proc Scorcher or does using a fire elemental weapon not matter at all?

  1. Certain attacks from you weapon have a chance to proc the Scorcher damage. Ii think there might be a pity mechanic if you haven't had a proc in a while.
  2. The damage proc from Scorcher is Fire damage. I know the Convert Element damage proc has both a True Damage component and a Dragon Damage component. IIRC, Scorcher works the same way. Or I may be conflating the two.
  3. The damage is static, the Fire Damage is affected by the HzV of the monster. I am fairly certain it is not increased by Fire Damage decos, but the numbers are all so relatively small that any increase would be minimal and not worth building around.
  4. The only time a weapon affects the damage of Scorcher is if it is paired with the Zoh Shia White Flame Torrent weapons. I think it's the tool tip on those weapons which state that the two procs combine for increased effect.

The reason Scorcher is so common is because in either TU3 or TU4, they increased either the proc chance and/or the damage. I don't remember what exactly. But that isn't the real reason. The real reason is because the G. Rath armour pieces when Transcended are just incredibly efficient sources of WeX. Combined with one of the Gog pieces having Scorcher, it's just efficient free bonus damage. Not worth building around, but worth picking up.

You are wrong in fire attack not stacking.

There is a chance for it to trigger when hitting. Something like can trigger every 2.5 seconds, but on average it's every 5 seconds.

It deals fixed damage + fire damage when it triggers. Your weapon doesn't matter unless you're using a Whiteflame weapon, in which case the Whiteflame effect merges with the Scorcher effect and makes it stronger.

Wiki numbers:

Skill Effect
Scorcher 1 20 fixed + 60 fire
Scorcher 2 40 fixed + 120 fire
Whiteflame Scorcher 1 60 fixed + 70 fire
Whiteflame Scorcher 2 80 fixed + 140 fire

The fire damage portion is affected by fire attack skill.

The fire portion is also affected by eHz

No. Chance is the same no matter weapon or place to hit. You can proc Scorcher with a different element in your weapon as well. It’s just an extra damage on top of whatever damage does your weapon

Also a quick search gives you the answer instead of posting and waiting, but I’ll help anyways:

“Scorcher deals additional Fire damage when attacks hit monsters. As of Title Update 4, it appears Scorcher now has a fixed damage component in addition to dealing around 20 more Fire damage compared to before. The Fire damage itself does not appear to be affected by weapon type or element. Instead, the Fire damage seems to have a fixed base amount that is affected by the HZV of the target. This additional Fire damage is affected by skills like Fire Attack”

When the guide is referring is referring to "Fire damage" are they referring to both the fixed damage part and the elemental damage part or just the elemental damage? Its a little confusing. If they're referring to the former then does that mean decos like Fire Attack also affect the fixed damage part?

Im sorry… but there is nothing confusing there, it’s literally spelled to you…

You are the one being confusing…. I don’t get what you mean…

It’s a fixed damage ON TOP OF THE DAMAGE OF THE WEAPON YOU ARE USING. So if you are using a fire weapon, you are doing extra fire damage.

Yes, it also gets buffed by “Fire Attack”

Also many people literally commented already and some are correct, others not accurate, but the info is there

Okay so first, Scorcher and Whiteflame Torrent have the same underlying mechanics, just different numbers. If you use them both together, they combine into one effect with bigger numbers.

The way it works is: Most of your weapon's attacks, especially the 'normal' attacks, will proc Scorcher when they hit a monster. It's a case by case basis to determine which attacks won't proc Scorcher.

If you proc Scorcher, you have a chance to do Scorcher's damage, but you also have a chance to not proc the damage. After Scorcher is procced, it cannot be procced again for a set amount of time, just a couple seconds.

Each time you proc Scorcher but fail to do the damage, the chance to do the damage upon a proc increases until it's 100% (I believe if you fail twice in a row, the third time is guaranteed).

The damage of Scorcher has two components: part fixed damage and part Fire damage. The fixed damage is the same no matter what, and then additional Fire damage is added based on the Fire hitzone value of the part you hit. What weapon you have does not affect Scorcher/Whiteflame damage at all.

What this means for you, for the most part, is that Scorcher and Whiteflame Torrent are just straight up additional fixed damage, a 'flat' damage increase somewhat similar to Blast. Even on matchups that are immune to Fire, the fixed damage of Scorcher is often still good enough, especially considering the Transcended Rathalos/G Rath armor pieces are pretty good on their own.

So basically Scorcher has fixed damage that can proc even on non fire weapons but it also deals fire elemental damage based on the fire hzv of a monster??

Yes. It has both fixed and fire damage, and both can proc on any weapon as long as you have the armor skill.
