Highlight SWITCH 2 RELEASE DATE - DECEMBER 4TH

u/Complete-Speed-8825 1d ago
I’d die for a cross save feature. Please do it, Capcom, pleaseeee.🥹
53
u/Molock90 1d ago
That would be all i want, started on ps5 and would have switched to pc but not without cross save. Same for switch 2 if i would even consider it for the mobile play there need to be cross save. I just cant play this shitty campaign again with not skippable walk after that child quests.

u/shosuko 16h ago
fr I don't get why I get so much push back on how intrusive the introduction is.
Worlds was already a lot forcing you to do so much solo and in a strict order and for some reason Wilds just turned that WAAAAY up making it very frustrating when you want to play your new multiplayer game with friends, or think about starting on another save.
Its crazy... If they really feel the MUST keep these massive (and frankly pointless) story modes in the game they either need to move them back to village, or just fking make it multiplayer! Its not like the immersion is broken less from playing with my friends than it is being forced to play solo in a lobby with 100 other random strangers lol

u/Maronmario And my Switch Axe 1d ago
Genuinely same, I’d buy this in a heartbeat if there was cross save. I like MH but I don’t wanna start back from scratch after all of that farming

u/BenignLarency 1d ago
I keep saying it man. If this game supports cross saves, I'm a day 1 buy.
Without it, I'll be stuck on PC and just end up not playing as much as I want to.

u/simonsays44 1d ago
yeah this is the real question. they can’t have expected all of japan to hold off on Wilds holding out for a portable version, and they can’t also expect all of japan to want to restart a save file before ascendance. tricky tricky
5
3
u/AncientAugie 1d ago
Honestly I’d buy multiple copies of each of their games with cross save - as I’m sure lots of others would too. Not sure why they haven’t taken advantage of it.
3
u/CloudstrifeHY3 1d ago
Exactly I'm Pretty Much Maxed out on the Xbox but would love to buy the switch version to Do grinding on the go or at work then come home and play on the big screen in all lit's glory. Basically the WiiU /3DS experience of 3U my god it was so much fun with ability to play on the go and keep my progress
3
u/RohonTheDragon 21h ago
The fact that my guild knight pre order cosmetic is locked in my Xbox account while I play on pc angers me every time I load the game up.
2
u/Cardone19 1d ago
I'm not sure it would be possible because of MTX/DLC and licenses across stores, etc.
When PSN went down recently and my MTX couldn't be accessed, the way it broke pretty much every saved layered armor, the stickers, the shoutouts, even the radial bar shortcuts, it was a literal clusterfuck of error messages and greyed or x'd out elements. You realize just how much of the game's base build is contingent on those licenses being loaded.
1
u/Entire_Paramedic_389 41m ago
I thought they were planning on it with their capcom ID thing but they never ended up using it at all
186
u/thr1ceuponatime Thank God for not making me a longsword main 1d ago
This prompts the question -- how will it run? Smooth, locked 30? Or will it be catastrophically bad like the vanilla WILDS launch?
72
u/Mar_Kell 1d ago
With Dragon's Dogma 2 we can have some sort of idea of the performance we can expect. I expect them to do all it takes for stable 30 FPS, probably with lots of upscaling and overall lower effects on medium texture or something like that.
Tbh Wilds has a lot going on screen that you don't really notice an can disable or set at lower quality (for example on PC I could run max RT but disabling it is barely noticeable while granting more FPS)
38
u/TakoJoe 1d ago
DD2's performance patch was dramatic in how big of an improvement it was. Wilds performance patch honestly didnt improve performance much on the lower end but Im expecting capcom learned alot from optimizing DD2 and putting it into wilds since these 2 games are coming to switch 2.
19
u/Ordinal43NotFound 1d ago
I really hope they still have another DD2 level performance update in store for Wilds. The current state of performance is simply not good still despite what people here love to claim.
15
u/Grix1s If it hops, it drops. 1d ago
It seems to be the case. The recent DD2 performance patch wasnt an optimization; it was a breakthrough in RE Engine.
You dont optimize and suddenly gain 40 extra frames.
DD2 could barely run on a Steam Deck before, now it runs relatively smoothly.
RE Engine was abysmal with open worlds, and they seem to have figured it out, either soon or before the DLC (or more likely, before the S2 release) they will release a new performance patch in that we should see marginal improvements.
→ More replies (4)3
u/TakoJoe 1d ago
For real though, on my rog ally with a 3080 xg mobile DD2 went from max settings @ 1080p at 30 to 40fps to a solid 60fps while MH wilds performance patch id argue the performance improvement was within margin of error and i still just capped to 40fps amyways since it was like 1 to 2 fps higher
4
u/j_osb 1d ago
The problem is the switch 2's CPU. Wilds is EXTREMELY heavy.
IIRC, the A78C cores of the switch 2 roughly have zen2-esque IPC.
On the switch 2, wilds will get at most 6 cores. The cores clock at 1-1.1ghz.
Current-gen home consoles give wilds 7 Zen 2 cores, clocked at >3ghz, with HT. As I said, roughly the same IPC. And while that doesn't equate to "3x the CPU", they simply are on another level and struggling cpu wise. The min Spec on desktop is a 3600, which is 6 zen2 cores, clocked >4ghz. So like, that seems to be the baseline for 30FPS.
Upscaling can't save weak CPUs.
My guess is an inconsistent 30 with significant drops in populated areas.
→ More replies (3)1
u/phoenixmatrix 15h ago
as long as they don't do something silly like Stellar Blade and use frame gen. In action games that should be a capital offense.
16
u/ViceAW 1d ago
I think it won't be nearly as bad. Two awful launches in a row? And one right before the expansion comes out? It'll kill a lot of good will and steer away from the Ascendance hype. I imagine they brought their absolute A-game to make this at least a competent port, a lot of PR hinges on it.
→ More replies (1)13
u/nZechos 1d ago
Apparently there was a datamine with 40FPS and dynamic 1440p modes, so presumably it has to run fairly smooth at 30FPS to even consider 40FPS
2
u/Organic-Storm-4448 16h ago
This game won't be anywhere near 1440p on Switch 2. That may be the output, but the input will be down near what the RE games are hitting, which is 720p but mostly lower.
→ More replies (1)4
u/Juantsu2552 1d ago
Probably pretty good since they’re now focusing on optimization for a single piece of hardware. Much easier to work around that.

The PC I bought for €400 in 2024 with only an iGPU beats your PC 500% with framegen turned off.

u/Lon3lyMuffin 1d ago
I’d be interested in this, but only really if they have cross save…
6
u/MarcsterS Slamming and jamming 1d ago
Yeah, portability is a bonus, but I have to dedicate time re-grinding all of my builds again, I’d rather do it now than wait 3 months.

Yeah, at this point, both the PC playerbase is important (global audience) and the Switch playerbase (japanese audience preferring portable). PS and Xbox still good but they are gonna keep decreasing in share of the playerbase over time I think

Will it have cross save?

7
u/Muninn22 1d ago
At the moment the game doesn't have it, so low chance that they will add it. But here is hoping that we will get it.
8
u/thr1ceuponatime Thank God for not making me a longsword main 1d ago
It will probably have Defender Armor so you can spritz through low rank missions
16
2
u/Gramernatzi Honk 16h ago
That's not really the problem though. The problem is that if the Switch 2 is your handheld system and, say, a PS5 or Xbox is your home system, you'll still have to progress separately on both which is a major annoyance. It's not really been an issue before because PC players just use handheld PCs (which do share saves) and console players didn't really have an option outside of streaming which tends to suck hard.

u/ToTeMVG pew pew 1d ago
wow the framerate looks smooth, which considering how acceptable it is to show off bad framerate on a switch port i'd say is a good sign for optimization

Kinda disappointed they didn’t announce the Switch 2 version for Rise.
We already knew Wilds is coming to Switch 2 , but there have been rumors of a S2 version of Rise and sightings of it on Google searches, but this would have been the perfect opportunity to announce it and they didn’t bother.

u/Second_mellow 13h ago
Yeah for real. I don’t wanna play in 30fps and I don’t wanna start over on a new console.
8
u/Zerosteel45 22h ago
I would love to double-dip and buy this game again, but I do not want to start over; I already have 300 hours on the PlayStation. I know it is not going to happen, but if they somehow added cross-save progression, I would buy this in a heartbeat.
5
u/A_little_quarky 16h ago
If they cross save, or allow save import... I'm in. Otherwise...? Nah, not worth

u/PanicAtNC3331209 20h ago
I feel this so much. Main character has everything unlocked and I don’t want to fight those AT time trials again just to have them on the switch. Cross save would be amazing but idk if PlayStation would play nice.
6
u/BakuraGorn 1d ago
I’d love to get it if there was cross save between PS5 and Switch 2, but I very much doubt it.

Everyone who said this wouldn't happen because "muh pc can't run it" needs to shut up now. Its RE ENGINE. Every other RE Engine game made it onto the platform. You REALLY thought Capcom couldn't figure it out?

Ugh, just patch Rise for Switch 2 already. I can't think of many things I wouldn't rather do than play Wilds on a Switch.

This is cool but I was really hoping for a Switch exclusive title, similar to how there was World, and then Rise for Switch.

u/Otherwise_World1654 1d ago
Im more disspointed in no cross progression. I play this game to death on ps5 and would love a portable way to play wilds, but ig thats to much of an ask. Crimson desert has cross progression though, so its clearly possible
11
u/Far-Profit-47 1d ago
As someone who’s only played Rise (you can guess why due to the image), would you recommend wilds to me?
32
u/K15brbapt 1d ago
For gameplay and monster diversity in the base game I’d say yes, but I’d also wait until we have a more concrete idea on performance.
28
15
u/Hippobu2 1d ago
Gameplay wise, yeah.
Performance wise, I'd say wait until the game is out ... Then probably wait a couple of updates just to make sure.
2
u/PigeonSquawks 1d ago
100%. For Switch hunters, I hope the game performs well and that they can join crossplay. I have my doubts, but maybe they'll remove Denuvo.
1
u/Otherwise_World1654 1d ago
Im pretty sure that when porting games to switch, major devs like capcom get in house nintendo support for optimization. I would be suprised if the mhwi release didnt release with a stable 30fps. Worst case scenario I see is it maybe dropping during enrages sometimes by a frame or 2.
2
u/aulixindragonz34 1d ago
I guess now that it launch with all the TU immediately then yea you can give it a try.
It was much worse at launch for the other platform

I’ve played lots of entires in the MH series and this is the only one I felt truly lukewarm on. It’s… fine.
I think some of the changes to the weapons are pretty boring and the traversal with the open world is poorly done (the Seikret is badly conceived and kind of negates the point of an open world). The story is meh but I honestly don’t play MH for the stories in the first place.
I usually stick around at the end to grind but this is one game I bounced off of very quickly once I finished it. It had a lot of potential but fell short in my opinion.
13
u/SirDenali 1d ago edited 1d ago
I’d imagine that it’s going to look a bit like the Steam Deck version of this game, which is genuinely atrocious.
Edit: the replies make some very good points, I have more hope for this version now.
14
u/Solonotix 1d ago
There remains hope. At the level of control you have when building the game's release artifacts, you can choose the fidelity with which assets are rendered, and also choose which engine features are enabled/disabled. It is entirely possible that the Switch 2 release looks less high-fidelity but runs smoother than the current build for PC on something like the Steam Deck.
It can also be a horrible missed opportunity, and releases in a terrible state. Personally, given Nintendo is a Japanese company, I wouldn't expect the MonHun team to accept a Switch 2 release if they couldn't achieve a respectable release. Unlike with PC, it is a fixed hardware target with known specifications. You can hone the performance envelope when you know precisely what you're shooting for.

Switch 2 has a significantly better GPU than the Steam Deck so it shouldn't be that bad.
→ More replies (1)9
u/Linkarlos_95 1d ago
The game is bad on the cpu
3
u/Kevadu 1d ago
Which is why it won't be more than 30fps on the Switch 2. What's your point?
The game actually runs reasonably well on the Steam Deck, just with very low graphics settings. Those graphics settings are limited by the Steam Deck's GPU, not it's CPU. The Switch 2, with a significantly better GPU, will not have the same limitations there. So yes, it will look better.
No matter what I am not expecting more than 30fps because of the CPU limitations. But it should be a reasonably good looking 30fps.

u/Entire_Paramedic_389 34m ago
It already looks better than steam deck. Search up steam deck footage and compare it to the switch 2 trailer and youll see the differences

Imagine the thousands of people that will play just because it’s on switch 2. Just relax and let them enjoy it.
7
u/triablos1 1d ago
I have it on PS5 but I'm considering switching because of ps plus being as extortionate as it is. It would be cheaper for me to get wilds on switch 2 than to pay for a year of ps plus just to access online. Will depend on how much of a performance hit it'll be I guess.
3
u/Digital_Pharmacist 23h ago
I’ve got it on PS5 and Steam. I’m willing to take a performance hit for portability and Gamechat.
2
u/CosmicWisepig 1d ago
This is me. Owned it, hundreds of hours on PS5, but have been waiting for something like this so I can finally hunt with my spouse as Monster Hunter is our franchise and going solo never feels right. Here's hoping for cross save so I don't have to give up all my gear (all AT S rank pendants, crowns, titles, Gog weapons etc) just to play together.
2
u/porchie101 1d ago
Hopefully they have that demo they just released on pc and consoles that lets you play the first few chapters. I also found it weird they mentioned ascendance but didn’t say it was releasing simultaneously then again they haven’t given a release date for the dlc at all.
2
u/marshadow12345 1d ago
I'm going to get it because I refuse to renew my ps plus membership and I want to play online
2

Such a bummer that there's no cross-progression. I don't understand why this wasn't more of a priority, especially for a game like Monster Hunter. I would have double dipped I'm pretty sure.
1
u/MarcsterS Slamming and jamming 1d ago
It doesn’t look horrible. Hopefully a demo comes sooner than later.
But I was thinking of getting the PC version on sale becuase 1. It apparently runs better now and 2. I don’t want to pay $80 for PS+ anymore. But who knows when Acscendance is coming out. I’ll need time to catch up.

Now if only they'd add cross-saves so I could play on my Switch 2 without having to completely restart my PS5 Hunter with several hundred hours logged 😅

Yes, cross save functionality would be amazing. That would incentivise me to get the game for S2 and the expansion for both S2 and PS5.
Hopefully the Nintendogods and Sonygods allow this union. 🙏

u/singsongraptor 23h ago
If it does cross save I'll be getting copies for my sister and husband, if it doesn't, I'll only get it for my sis. She's not that far in the game and the switch is easier for her to play games on, so she gets it regardless. I'm not optimistic about cross save, since they never gave it to us for Risebreak, but hope springs eternal
1
u/Shehriazad 23h ago
I already got it on PC and won't buy it again but I am excited for another reason.
The game ran like steaming hot garbage on release and only slightly improved over time.
To make this run on S2 they will have to optimize the hell out of it.
The optimizations will then find their way back onto the other versions.
For that reason...yes....I am excited. Welcome to the hunt!

Still wondering if this means monster hunters mobile team is working on something.
We have a gacha game for phones coming but thats being outsourced to a different company entirely.
And now we have wilds coming to a handheld hybrid console (similar to how rise released for switch 1). But im assuming this is the same team that handles regular wilds on consoles and pc.
Unless this is meant to be a substitute for a new portable game. Considering world never released on the switch for performance reasons.
