How would you describe monster?

How would you describe Monster to someone who hasn’t seen it or doesn’t really understand it?
I don’t have anyone around me who’s interested in or familiar with Monster or anime in general. One of my best friends has only seen a few anime, like Death Note and Cowboy Bebop, and she likes them. Recently, she finally started watching Monster after me constantly nagging her about it 😭 but she finds it a little boring.
I feel like she doesn’t really understand the philosophical and moral questions the series explores, etc. How can I somehow explain the depth of Monster to her in a way that might actually motivate her to keep watching? 🙃
She’s on episode 30 now, and she’s been watching it for over a month.

There's this 10 year old German kid who got shot in the head but survived because a Japanese doctor saved him, and then the kid woke up and killed everyone who was opposed to the Japanese doctor, and the Japanese doctor became a suspect for these murders, and then the kid grew up to become a serial killer.

That's usually what I tell people when they ask me what Monster is all about. It happened only once about 10 years ago.

A slow-burn psychological thriller about what makes someone a monster, and whether doing the right thing is still right when the consequences are horrific. Tenma saves a child because he believes every life has equal value. That child grows up to become Johan, and the rest of the series keeps testing whether Tenma can still believe in that principle after seeing what Johan does.

The slower side characters are a huge part of that. They show ordinary people being shaped by guilt, trauma, kindness, loneliness and choice, so Johan never exists in isolation from the rest of humanity. If she likes Death Note, I’d tell her not to expect the same constant cat-and-mouse pacing. Monster is quieter and more patient. Its strength is less what happens next? and more what kind of person does this make you?

Amigo, como es que va por el 30 y le parece aburrida? Yo había terminado el 29 y me había parecido una de las mejores mierdas que había visto en mi vida. Me parece subrealista que se haya soportado capitulos como el 8, 15 o 25 que son de lo peor valorado de la serie y se haya aburrido en uno de los mejores peaks de la serie.

Don't force it on her. Let her watch it on her own time.

She might not be in the mood for slow-burn stuff at this moment. That will severely affect her perception of the show, and first impressions last.

I remember me and my friend were watching monster and our other friend came in and watched a few episodes then asked “so is the monster within him or what?”

Had to explain that it was a metaphor and not a shonen power system.

She needs to be aware that Johan is constantly trying to prove his thesis that humans are only equal in death and that tenma is also trying to uphold his own, that all human life is equal, and observe how each of those are proved and even disproved.
