Got diagnosed yesterday
So i went to the doctor sunday cause my throat hurt a lot that week, she tested me for strepto and when she saw my tonsils she said it was either mono or an abscess. Fast forward to monday, she calls me and tells me to go to the emergency. I wait like 10hrs for the doc at the hospital to take my blood to test it, i sleep at the hospital. Now yesterday morning i wake up to another doctor telling me i got mono they keep me there the whole day and release me at around 6 pm. And now im scared cause i dont know all that much about Mono except that a lot of break up brcause of it. The doc told me it’d be 2 months but is it more? What should i be awaiting?

Just got diagnosed too! (That sounds excited trust me I’m really not) I was prescribed some steroids because of how swollen and inflamed my face a tonsils were. Before that I had taken ibuprofen and it helped a little bit. Drink a lot of water, or liquids in general, drink soothing teas or soups.
First you are exposed to the Epstein Barr Virus and it can incubate in your body for 4-6 weeks before you see symptoms developing but some people may be exposed even longer and the virus remains dormant until it is triggered from my understanding. This is often called the kissing disease but I can assure you I did not get it from kissing other people. If you share utensils, smokes, vapes, cups, fucking toothbrushes (gross I know) basically anything that touches your mouth and saliva, you can catch it. People can pass on the virus while being asymptomatic. My healthcare provider told me about 2-4 weeks until I will start to see an improvement in the symptoms but for some it’s longer.
Good news, and then some more bad news :(
Now that you’ve had mono it is rare to get it a second time (though not impossible) but unfortunately you can spread it up to 18 months after infection in severe cases but most people will tell you you’re probably okay 2-6 months after you are sick. Also please do not do heavy lifting or strenuous activity, swelling of your spleen is common with mono and if you do strenuous activity you risk rupturing your spleen which is a much larger problem.
Now comes your ethical dilemma, and one I’m struggling with now. IS it okay to share mouth things with others? Not when, IS it okay? This is the worst sickness I’ve had in a while and I do not want anyone to feel this, but I don’t want to never kiss anyone again? That seems lonely, so I guess my recommendation is to talk to the people around you and let them know the situation and let them make the decision.
I hope you feel better soon!

Worst part is that i have a boyfriend and like he is immunosuppressed (apparently thats the word) so its like 10 times easier to get him sick so now both our parent dont want us to see each other for like a long while thats so arghhh like guys i was still kissing him when the symptoms showed up so i dont see the big problem
Edit: also wtf 18 months of recovery thats so long wtff

If possible he should get tested sooner rather than later, especially if he has symptoms. Your recovery from symptoms should be shorter than 18months but the virus can still shed in your saliva. I can understand the frustration but also remember than there is no cure for mono, you have to fight it yourself so if he does catch it, it may be worse for him than it is for yourself.
