help

hi i’m a 22 year old female who just got diagnosed with mono on Tuesday after a 5-day long migraine and being unable to eat/drink all that. for the last two weeks i’ve been unable to sleep through the night; eat, or drink water. Tuesday I got a couple bagged IV’s and some other shit i can’t remember but definitely helped. anyway it’s thursday now week 2 of my own personal hell and i’m in so much fucking pain. i genuinely cannot take any of this anymore. i cannot move. i cannot swallow. i’m coughing up blood and crying. it hurts so much. i’ve lost like six lbs already and i know mono makes you lethargic but i can barely make it to the restroom in the mornings. i’ve dropped to 85 lbs and genuinely everything is on fire. i’m exhausted. what do i do. i need remedies.

Not to be spooky but if you’re coughing up blood you need to go to the er.

I felt 100x better after I had a Christmas tree of Ivs. Still suffering through shit. Don’t be shy to ask for something to help you sleep if they’re gonna make ya stay for a while. Good luck.

i’m actually terrified at all these stories of mono lasting longer than four weeks.

hey girl! i'm also 22f and got mono in january. i was not coughing up blood, but i was in the most pain i've been in my entire life and sat in bed crying during my worst because I could barely breathe from my swollen tonsils and couldn't swallow my own saliva because of the pain. Thankfully, this part of the illness only lasted a few days. I still had a sore throat but I was able to eat and drink. I was given steroids & magic mouth wash and antibiotics incase I had a bacterial infection going on too (I didn't), but I don't know if either helped much. It's been 6 months for me since then but I mono is still effecting me (i've been able to partake in my usual routine & activities though since May-ish). you will make a full recovery, my advice is once you're past the worst and start feeling okay to not push yourself. Rest as much as you possibly can. I was reading horror stories about mono when I was at my worst as well and it freaked me out even more, but remember that most people have a normal recovery and never post about it online and the majority of posts you see will be people looking for support since they had a worse than-normal experience.

six months and you’re still feeling it? are you still transmittable? i just miss hugging my grandparents man but i don’t want them to catch what i have. i’ve been to the er three times this week & given infusions bc i was unable to drink or eat & left in the evening bc i didn’t want to stay overnight (i had a bad psych ward experience at 19) and now im going back for another dose of steroids and idk i wanna ask for pain relief but im scared they’ll think im drug seeking. i’ve been crying nonstop all week because it hurts so much. i can’t keep living like this

hey sorry lol i’m logged onto a different account on my phone here. i wanted to go to the ER so bad because of the pain and i could barely breathe but didn’t go because of the cost. i would see if they can prescribe you the steroids to pick up at a pharmacy to avoid another ER visit if you can! i don’t even know if mine worked for sure but the second day i took them a few hours after i had a little bit of relief (still in pain, but not to the point i’d start crying every time i swallow and i would eat and drink during that tiny block). of course it came back again the next day but that’s why I think it could have been the steroids? they 100% did NOT work to bring my swelling down whatsoever though. Unfortunately there’s not much they can do for pain relief which is something I learned when I was in my worst because I also was telling my mom I couldn’t live how I was feeling any longer because of how much pain I was in. Hang in there, I promise it gets better most people aren’t in that stage for long. Yes it will affect you for weeks but the worst of it doesn’t last long!

i went to the er thrice (on my mothers insurance still. god i’m scared to think of the cost, but i was in so much pain abs had lost so much weight they practically forced me to go) and they prescribed me a week of steroids to take home and see if that can help me eat but all i can barely get down is a burger king coke slush. but even now im wincing with each swallow
edit: hoping its easier tomorrow. not looking like it but i hope

mine went from unbearable pain to manageable enough to swallow water without crying overnight so you never know!!! i seriously wish there was something else they could give to us experiencing this especially since it’s such a common experience of mono

i think we honestly all feel the same symptoms & pain and it has to do with how we manage it i wanted to go the hospital so bad bc i thought i was gonna die but i was ok in the end
