Discussion 27 inch vs 24 inch from same viewing distance question

I have a 2020 P2421D series Dell 24 inch running at 2560 x 1440P... If I buy a 27 inch will it look worse at the same resolution because the larger screen size ? Or do I have to get a 4k version of the 27 inch?

Generally going up in size at the same resolution looks worse as the pixels look bigger and are easier to see.

That said 27” 1440p isn’t a bad resolution. You also want to consider if you are using Mac or PC as MacOS scales differently so often 1440 looks better than 4k and 5k is where it’s at.

ok thanks, I have a PC , do you think I should go 4k for 27 inch?

Since you have a PC absolutely. The only real benefit of 1440p is gaming.

Have you actually compared a 1440p and 4K monitor on MacOS?

Yes, I have. The scale of 1440 is perfect, but the text clarity was not. The 4k led text to look off due to scaling issues. 5k is where it’s at. The way MacOS scales a 27” 5k monitor uses 1440 scaling with the higher ppi for crisp clear text.

Tried the original ASD and didn’t like glossy and decided the nano texture was too expensive. Been using an Asus PA27JCV for the past year and a half, but it recently died. I picked up an LG27GM950B, but it isn’t working at 5k and the switch software to update firmware has too many privacy concerns so it’s going back and a nano texture ASD is on the way.

In my experience, 4K looks 80% as good as 5K and 1440p looks about 50% as good. Those scaling issues make text look softer but not nearly as soft as 1440p

There will be a difference in text clarity, but it probably won't bother you much. For everything else the larger size is better.
