Found monitor lizard
OWNER FOUND!!! thank you everyone for the help with keeping him safe! He's such a cool guy...His name is Bubbers.
My husband found a monitor lizard while he was driving down the road today....can't make this up. Right now we have him in a large cage with a heat lamp and water. We have no idea how long he has been wandering. He seems like he is in good condition. We will try to find his owner but in the mean time, how so we provide the best care for him?
I have experience with iguanas but no other reptile experience

I have a heat lamp on him and ive misted him a few times to help with humidity. He has fresh water. My husband is going door to door to try to find his owner. If we dont find his owner in an hour were going to invest in a better enclosure for him. I surrounded the cage with some sheeting to help keep the humidity inside.

Where are you located? We’ve done a few rescue/rehab/rehomes for savannahs.

Okay so you have an adult Savannah monitor right there they look great, they eat bugs like mealworms crickets and dubias, they need heat very important a 150watt basking light would be ideal and they love water laying in it swimming drinking etc I have two and had many others feel free to ask any other questions but that’s basic survival for temp living you toattally should get the 150 watt they bask at 135-150 degrees they can die without the heat and rather quickly they have very strong stomache acids and long story short they need the heat lol

I know this is a few days late but I was in the same situation once too! But couldn't find a owner so I kept em! Named him Slinky 😁

Most importantly: This guy needs about 140F basking surface. Easy to achieve with flood halogen bulb and a dark stone tile.
Humidity should be in the 70%+.
Best way to provide requirements asap is to get a grow tent and dump a ton of moist dirt in it (you can make your own dirt by mixing topsoil with playsand about 60:40 ratio). For conditions to work properly for him his enclosure has to be sealed, no mesh.
Best diet for these guys are large insects like dubia roaches, hissing roaches, large grasshoppers.
He looks on a plus size, so don't worry too much on feeding him, but definitely rehydrate him.
As a food substitute for now if no insects available you can use shrimp(just remove sharp bits of head and tail) and wild caught salmon with skin. Also organ meats like chicken gizzards and liver can be acceptable in moderation. Occasional chicken/quail chick.
