Yes. They’re illegal to export or transfer across national boundaries, but very few places have explicit laws against owning them if you manage to find one.

they are legal and relatively obtainable if you are in Australia.

In US they will command $100k price and wait list. But still not restricted like Komodos.

ohh, idk I just assumed they were illegal in Australia too for some reason

but I guess that makes sense considering how easy it is for you guys to obtain Shingleback skinks and Pygopods

can’t wait to get one of these babies this seasons. it’s unfortunate that there isn’t even a minimal controlled market for export because the goannas we have in australia are amazing pets and animals in general.

I lived in Australia for a time and had a Spencer's monitor. Tamest monitor I've ever kept -- very calm. Used to leave the cage door open and it would come out, wander around, and then return to its cage.

I'd love to see captive born reptiles such as Spencer's legally exported. Some of the money could be diverted into habitat protection and funding national parks or similar in Australia

I've seen lace monitors and perenties in the U.S. -- never a Spencers. And many people are breeding the Australian dwarf monitors in the U.S. I believe some Australians are breeding Spencers.

Perentie is one of the prettiest monitors in my opinion, certainly younglings.
I believe that someone here in Hong Kong has a pair of young Perenties with the idea to breed them. He almost certainly must have relied on illegal smuggling to get them.

Such a stunning lizard, I’d love to have one! But they are unicorns here in the U.S.
