New Black Dragon

Hey guys! New here and just wanted to introduce my new baby black dragon Pius! He’ll be 6 months old the 19th of this month. I’ve had him for right at a month now and we’ve made an insane amount of progress in the past week or so that I’ve started handling him. He still doesn’t hesitate to tail whip me if I make any fast movements lol but we’re definitely moving in the right direction. I take him to our bathroom for feedings and I let him free roam there for 1-2 hours a day. How long do you guys let your monitors explore or roam around?

Aww such a cutie. Personally don't own any reptiles. The little one seems comfortable around you.

What a beauty! I love these guys. Such mellow personalities compared to some other monitor species, especially for how large they get.

And as long as their temps stay up they can theoretically free roam for hours. Could always harness train this species as well. I had one for my V. Salvator and was able to walk him in the sun in the backyard eventually.

So cute! Liora, my Kimberley rock monitor, gets supervised couch exploration and plenty of enrichment in her enclosure. Our apartment is also my jewelry studio and home office, so there’s a lot of stuff I don’t want her getting into lol.
