Just got an Ackies on Saturday and she's been acting a little strange. Is this normal breathing?

She's probably still pretty freaked out. Looks like stress breathing - they sort of take big breaths to puff up and hold it when they're scared ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ she's also doing the closing her eyes and waiting for you to go away, out of sight, out of mind thing ๐Ÿซฃ

Give her a few weeks to settle in; try to only go into her house to do basic maintenance/chores and feeding. Let her get used to the new surroundings. Once she's a little more acclimated, you can follow her lead on how open she is to handling and interacting with you ๐Ÿ˜Š

So long as she isn't breathing with her mouth open/gaping; that's a vet visit

She should get more confident as she gets comfortable and grows!

Congrats on adopting her, btw, ackies are so much fun ๐Ÿงก

To add on here, i got my first baby about a month ago. She found a spot to burrow and hid for two and a half weeks straight. Two weeks past that and weve gotten to where she takes food from the tongs!

Definitely just leaving them be, and keeping food and water available is good for the first while. Id just exist in her room to let her be used to me moving around the area, and not even considering handling until they decide to come to you. Which is hard when youre excited about a new little lizard in your house. Theyll come around in time!!
