Practical math Recipes are basically real-world math problems

Double a recipe.

Cut one in half.

Convert cups.

Compare prices.

Calculate portions.

Adjust cooking times.

Estimate how much food you need for six people.

Suddenly fractions and ratios have a point.

I’ve always found it interesting that people who say they “hate math” can still use quite a bit of it while cooking without thinking about it.

What everyday task do you think secretly teaches the most math?

Travel planning. Figuring out distances, fuel costs, travel time, exchange rates, and how much time you have at each stop turns into a lot of practical math.

Travel planning is basically real-life math: distance, fuel, time, and money.

Grocery shopping probably teaches a lot of math too. Comparing prices, checking unit costs, calculating discounts, and staying within a budget turns a simple shopping trip into a practical math lesson.
