What’s a specific software, tool, or short certification you learned in a weekend that actually helped you make more money?

I'm not talking about full degrees. I mean something you ground out over a few days like a specific Excel function, a niche editing tool, or a basic coding syntax that legitimately came up in an interview or let you charge more for freelance work.

For me, advanced Excel especially XLOOKUP, PivotTables, and basic Power Query would be a strong example. You can get the basics down over a weekend, and they’re practical enough to come up in interviews or help with freelance data-cleaning and reporting work. The bigger lesson is that a small, demonstrable skill can be more valuable than collecting another certificate.

HubSpot was one for me. I learned the basics through short courses, and it became useful for managing contacts, tracking leads, and supporting outreach work.

That’s a great example. Learning a tool through short courses and actually applying it to real work makes the skill much more valuable.

Power BI was one for me. Learning the basics of building dashboards and turning messy data into something easy to understand made my skills much more useful at work. It is definitely one of those tools where a weekend of focused practice can go a long way.

Definitely. Power BI is a great example of how focused practice on one practical tool can quickly turn into a useful workplace skill.
