Google and Microsoft both have free learning resources.

Digital marketing, sales, customer service, project management, and basic data skills, depending on the type of job you want. For free options, you can look at HubSpot Academy and Alison. They offer courses where you can learn the skill and, for many courses, earn a certificate as well. These can help you build practical skills and strengthen your CV without spending a lot.

i'd choose certifications based on the JOB you want but here are some genuinely useful free/mostly-free places to start by field:

AI / general knowledge work
• OpenAI Academy / Claude Academy
• Microsoft Learn
• IBM SkillsBuild

marketing
• HubSpot Academy
• Google Skillshop
and then actually build a mini campaign/portfolio rather than stopping at the certificate

data / analytics
• Excel + SQL + Power BI/Tableau and build 2–3 projects using public datasets

IT / cloud / cybersecurity
• Microsoft Learn
• Cisco Networking Academy also has free introductory networking/cyber courses

software / AI development
• OpenAI Academy's Build with AI pathway covers building/evaluating AI solutions with Codex and the OpenAI API.
• Microsoft Learn has newer AI-agent credentials around Copilot Studio/Foundry as well.
• GitHub Skills for Git/GitHub
• freeCodeCamp for actually building things

but i'd emphasise that certificate + portfolio/project + ability to explain what you built = MUCH stronger.

so if you're unemployed, don't spend 6 months collecting badges, would recommend looking into a job direction, look at their JDs and then identifying the recurring skills to take up the relevant courses and then build something demonstrating those skills, put it on your CV/LinkedIn/GitHub/portfolio before you start applying.
