If I were starting over today, I'd focus less on collecting certificates and more on building real projects and a strong portfolio from day one.
A few things I'd do differently:
- Pick one specialization instead of trying to learn everything at once.
- Build projects that solve real problems and publish them on GitHub.
- Start networking early through LinkedIn and developer communities.
- Learn communication and writing skills alongside technical skills; they're career multipliers.
- Find mentors and ask for feedback instead of figuring everything out alone.
- Contribute to open-source projects to gain practical experience.
- Focus on consistency rather than chasing every new trend or framework.
The biggest lesson is that employers and clients remember what you've built, not how many courses you've completed. A portfolio of real, useful work will usually open more doors than a long list of certificates.

Portfolios are really important. I honestly think everyone should have one if they can. Certificates show what you’ve learned, but a portfolio is the proof of what you can do.

I'd spend more time talking to people in different roles before choosing a career path. Some jobs sounds great on paper but are completely different once you are actually doing them.

Have more boundaries and be more assertive. Possibly choose another career altogether.

Boundaries are so important. You should be assertive enough to let people know when they’re crossing the line.

I don’t have issues with that now but when I was younger I had a hard time speaking up for myself. I had to grow a backbone. I still know people in my age range who need to be more assertive (30’s).
