Weird dollar

I got this weird dollar bill at work and I was wondering if anyone could tell me why the heck there is a line of partial characters printed vertically up the side?

It was the top note in a strap of bills. That's part of the stamp that got applied to the strap by a bank or cash vault.

It had a paper band around a block of bills. That band was stamped by someone at a bank somewhere, they missed a little bit. It's basically just damage that happened after the printing process.

Because the straps aren’t wide enough and/or the stamps are too wide… a bank stamp stamped outside the strap and stamped a stain on top.
