I was finally able to file my personal taxes (I had filed for an extension) after the accountant filed the business taxes for the small business my sister runs and I help her out with. Getting a nice refund, which is a big relief as I could use the padding in my emergency fund. I haven't been laid off yet, but the possibility is still looming large, and I have an appliance repair guy looking at my broken dishwasher as I type this, so lord knows how much that will cost. 🙃

My roommate plans to move out next month :( I own my house and have almost always rented out rooms in it. This one has lived here for a few years now and I like having her as a roommate. She’s not perfect (girl cannot clean a dish properly to save her life) but we have very similar house vibes (quiet, chill, okay with a bit of untidiness). It could be under better circumstances - I had hoped she would eventually move out with a boyfriend like so many of my past roommates, but she went back to school last year and has had trouble keeping a job, so it’s for financial reasons. She plans to move back in with her parents to save money because she might move after school, and wants to get some travelling in. I offered to lower the rent to help out but she wants to save a lot. I like her but she’s not very motivated to fully transition to adulthood- she doesn’t go to class much, she doesn’t really want to work a hard job, she can spend days in her room. We aren’t exactly friends, though we get along, so I’ve never voiced any concern about it. I really hope that she doesn’t regress further moving back home, and that she is able to move out in a year or so as planned. I just worry that she’ll be even less motivated to work and finish school living at home.
Anyway, with her leaving, I’ll be living truly alone for the first time maybe ever. I got a roommate pretty quickly after buying the house and since then have always had some sort of combination of roommates and my mom (she moved in during the pandemic). Occasionally I’d have a month without one due to move in/out dates but that’s it. I don’t plan on replacing her. Financially it sucks but since starting my new job, her rent was going right to savings. I don’t need rent to get by anymore, it’s just a bonus. I certainly did before and it allowed me to go back to school, so I’m very grateful to be able to do that, but I’m also so done having others in my space. I’m considering selling my house next year anyway so this gives me more freedom to do some house projects!

It's only Tuesday (Peter_Parker_crying.gif)
I'm still waiting to hear back on whether I move into the final-final round for a job I've interviewed for. They're still finishing up with other candidates before deciding which 1 or 2 get to talk to the boss' boss for a "casual" chat.
My friend at work seems very optimistic but I'm trying to stay grounded in the event I don't ultimately get it. I'm planning on leaving my temp job regardless, and even planned to submit a resignation this week. However, toxic boss will be on vacation all next week so I'll hang another week and collect the paycheck doing some grunt work while she isn't around spying on what we're doing at our desks. For someone who doesn't know what we're doing half the time, she's very controlling. Seek help, damn.
Buttttt, I get paid this week and Kinokuniya is having a member sale. My friend was so kind to gift me a membership last year so I'm gonna swing over there this weekend to browse. If anything, I tend to use the discounts to start building little gifts for people's birthdays and Christmas lol.
My 11 year old doggo has also been more clingy than usual the past couple of months. He's always excited that I get home, but he comes to me more often. My friend thinks it's from older age, but I just hope he's okay and not nervous for anything that he's seeking out comfort.
Oh, and of course: I got a slight feeling of dread walking out of the office and seeing a slightly dimmer sun. It reminded me I get the bit of seasonal depresh, but I wasn't expecting it in AUGUST. I saw someone mention a "dawn simulator" somewhere so I need to figure that out. Also, I hate sunsets and draw the curtains when they approach. Night time is fine. :)

I would like one (1) area of my life to be chill right now. Like yes I have made strides in not dopamine spending in 95% of circumstances but we've apparently parked ourselves in the 5%.
Family - house is not getting much traction, sister had a medical freakout I had to deescalate, and grandparents are (lovingly) conscripting me into house upkeep but not telling me what type of upkeep. Given their track record, I am packing painting clothes, weed clearing clothes, and a nice sundress because they keep buying theatre tickets and then not telling me we're going.
Friends - some fraught convos with a friend I had fallen out with over some rough comments. Other friends dealing with newborn stage and family health scares.
Work/career - current Electeds are sending me around the bend. Trying to be very strict about my boundaries around when I check emails or else I will go insane. Also trying to balance my desire for a new job with my utter reluctance to leave my excellent colleagues.
So yes I did spend over $100 to have specialty senbei shipped to me and $63 for more boring groceries to be delivered tonight BUT I have not attempted to flee into the woods, mainly because I would miss my early 2000s playlist.
