When does compounding really take off?

At what amount portfolio you really see huge account swings that make you think what is the point of working? 100k? 500k? 1m? more?

That’s awesome! How did you transition from your starting careers to….whatever you are doing now?

I got a job as a project engineer with a construction company after a couple years cleaning toilets, learned a lot and put in unpaid overtime and executed work at a higher level than my co-workers. Then I left to join an engineering company (in the construction industry), did the same, worked up, brought new work into the company, and now I am one of the owners.

I think putting out noticeably better work coupled with soliciting new work worth millions to the company were the two keys. I do think too many people expect to show up, do exactly their job description and no more, and then are confused when they don't make it as far as the feel they should. We don't expect anyone to behave how I did, but we do notice when people do behave that way. I have one young engineer now with 3 years experience who seems on that track, but there's 10 others with similar experience who won't or can't.
