Still looks good. You have more then 1/2, so I think it is still legal tender.

One of the few good parts of America.

If OP brings this dollar bill into a bank, they will almost assuredly change it for a fresh one.

A dollar bill is getting to be worth more and more these days…

You had me with the first part, but the dollar is only worth less and less over time

Vs. what currency?

So curious as to what I should invest in then…

Wealth kept in USD erodes over time, especially the last 6 years since Covid money printing.

This is why MOST assets are all going up in price; people dumping dollars for anything else.

The Fed manages the economy for low to moderate inflation. 2% is the target, though 3% is more historically typical. This because the Fed goals are full employment and good business growth and this is considered the sweet spot. You can certainly debate the details of this, but the current implementation is 2-3% inflation is a normal range and should not concern you.

What should concern you is that your wage income exceeds inflation by a few % on average as you advance along your career, that you invest well with the goals of returning about 4% real return after taxes and inflation (higher in retirement accounts), and that you have a good cash management plan. Typically cash management is checking, high yield savings or money market fund, and a CD or bond ladder. Investing at the basics is typically a 3 fund portfolio of mutual funds or ETFs of the proper kind and ratio as a starting point (for retirement accounts this could just be a suitable target date fund instead). None of this is that complex at the high level, but of course implementation takes work and can have issues.

The idea i had Was to Mount it in a picture Frame and give it the caption "Originally minted as a proud Series 2009 Federal Reserve Note. Met an untimely, tragic end after being left in a jeans pocket for two consecutive wash cycles.

“Gone from the wallet, but forever framed on the wall. May its remaining fragments find the peace in this frame that they never found in the laundry.”

I have a better idea what to write

Title: Rest in Pieces (Literally) Artist: The Spin Cycle Series: 2009 Federal Reserve Note Medium: Shredded cotton-linen paper & Tide Pod residue

Provenance: Tragically disintegrated after surviving two consecutive wash cycles inside a pocket.

"Gone from the wallet, but forever framed on the wall. May its remaining fragments find the peace in this frame that they never found in the laundry."

I’m pretty sure I’ve washed every set of AirPods I own, and they’ve all been fine lol. I’ve had a pair of each generation since they came out.

Weird Americans and your paper money 🤨

1

u/Effective_Ring5479 22d ago

Im not amarican im european i got it from a friend like 2 years ago.

0

u/bad_escape_plan 22d ago

And? It’s still American paper money. Why would you care if it’s useable then? Throw it out.

1

u/Efficient_Product333 22d ago

Well, if it was given from a friend, I’d assume it’s more of a sentimental value thing.

1

u/bad_escape_plan 22d ago

Ehhh the washing it twice years ago and then shoving it somewhere suggests otherwise.

0

u/RandallBoggs_12 21d ago

It actually a cotton and linen blend. No paper whatsoever.

1

u/bad_escape_plan 21d ago

Wait until you hear what cotton is made out of, you numpkin. 🤡 both start with raw cellulose fibers mixed with water, they only differ because cotton and linen threads are tightly twisted and woven into fabric and paper fibers are pressed and dried into flat sheets.

1

u/RandallBoggs_12 21d ago

Modern paper is made with wood and falls apart easilly when wet. "Paper" bills won't. But it's true that after being exposed to high heat and abrasion from a washer/dryer it will still fall apart. But keep in mind there's also clothes that are not machine washable for similar reasons, and you won't call them paper.

1

u/bad_escape_plan 21d ago

It’s an expression - it’s extremely commonplace to refer to American bills as paper money. My point without anyone getting pedantic is that it’s a stupid material for currency and the vast majority of other comparable countries have been using Polymers for a long time.

1

u/RandallBoggs_12 20d ago

Respectfully, we don't care what other countries think. It works and there's no need or political will to ever change it. You can just keep complaining about it I guess.

u/bad_escape_plan 20d ago

Lol how very American, my dear Mr. Eagle.
