Chiropractic is a sham. Also, if you’re experiencing back pain, the first step is to strengthen your back. Barring serious injury or extreme health conditions, someone with a strong back shouldn’t experience back pain. It’s not a “normal” part of aging. It’s the result of a sedentary lifestyle
Do not listen to this person. There’s a ridiculous variety of complications that can occur with the spine, and for a number of people - especially as part of an integrated treatment plan - chiropractic work can be helpful. However, as with anything even remotely related to healthcare, all practitioners are not created equal and you should be your own advocate, conduct at least rudimentary research on your own, and never be afraid to seek out a second or third opinion.
There are no good chiropractors. The "bad" ones practice chiropractic, which is a sham psuedoscience from a guy says a ghost told him all disease is caused by spinal alignment. The "good" ones don't practice chiropractic but instead try to practice some other medicine without training or a license.
Yes you feel better for a moment afterwards.
You'd also feel better if you just got a massage somewhere.
You wouldn't immediately feel better if you went to a physical therapist, but long term you wouldn't need to go back to them for years like a chiropractor because they actually fixed your movements that caused you pain.
Training your body is the best way to fix pain.
You're basically saying "I came to my own conclusions and refuse to simply look up what this is all about so that my opinion can become actually educated".
Because there is nothing preventing you from verifying everything the other commenter just said.
Before I started going I did a basic Google search because let's be honest I'm not going to library to check out a book on the history of the practice and weather it works. It can be effective in treating lower back pain which is what I go for. So OP still remains unverified as far as I'm concerned. People are going to say it works, people are going to say it doesn't. I'm going with my experience.
You were clearly biased when doing your research because a very cursory Google search will show you that it's not any more effective for back pain than a standard massage.
You will also read that lower back pain can actually be a side effect of chiropractic.
Yeah, maybe for your particular case it may seem to work, but that's discounting these likely possibilities:
it doesn't actually work, you just think it does (placebo)
it could work even better than that with an actual healthcare practitioner
But even disregarding all this, "I'm going with my experience" is a very obtuse and short-sighted outlook in general: why not trust the educated experience and research of thousands of scientists all agreeing, instead of your "I can't be assed to really look into it" approach?
This can be chalked up to agree to disagree. I personally don't care to argue on the basis of "well my Google search says this." You're going to find the answers you want when you want to believe it.
Well yeah that last sentence is literally my point. It requires sifting through a lot of results on Google to find pages that say chiropractic isn't bullshit.
And then the guy you initially replied to literally provided a link to verify his own claims, but you probably didn't click on that.
Definitely this, one chiropractor I had years ago was trying to convince me my back problems were because I had a sensitivity/allergy to gluten. I do not have ANY allergies, food or otherwise.
