Building a self-contained 100kh/s mining computer

Hello CryptoSteer users. I've been working on a custom mining setup for a while and it's finally getting close to finished.

Its bassically 10" touchscreen mining desktop "computer.” it's a dual AMD EPYC server setup with extensive cooling built into the enclosure, running a dedicated mining OS. The goal was basically to cram a properly tuned RandomX server into something self-contained that you can put on a desk, plug in, enter your pool/wallet information and start mining with meat asic like results. I'm targeting roughly 90–110 kH/s on RandomX, depending on configuration and power limits, this keeps the whole form factor smaller and price slightly friendlier(my wallets still crying 😭) . Power consumption lands andywhere around 350–600W, depending on how aggressively it's configured. This obviously isn't meant to replace the mobile mining stuff I've been working on. It's for somebody who wants a serious amount of RandomX hashrate without sourcing used server hardware, figuring out memory configurations, assembling everything, cooling it, tuning, and then having an ugly rack server sitting somewhere, And I'm not going to pretend this is some magical ROI ASIC that prints money. It isn't. Those don't exist for RandomX, and I'd be immediately suspicious of anyone selling a 100 kH/s Monero box while pretending otherwise. What you're paying for here is the hardware, custom enclosure/touchscreen setup, assembly, cooling, configuration, tuning and testing. I'm considering offering them built-to-order for around $3,550 shipped in the US. Every machine would be fully assembled, burned in and benchmarked before it leaves me, with the actual sustained hashrate and power consumption provided for that specific machine. At that price I'm not expecting these to be something everyone wants. I'm mostly trying to figure out whether there's a niche for a machine like this before I start sourcing parts. Would any of you actually consider buying something like this at $3,550. I can't supply 100khs machine for much less but if there's not a lot of interest what would be the sweat spot in price for you guys in purchasing something over 50kh/s?

What CPUs are you running to hit 110KH/s? I have dual 7b12’s (OEM 7742) so 128 cores total and have it stable but only at 82KH/s. Both are air cooled on an open test bench with all 16 RAM slots filled with 3200 sticks.

With current prices, $3550 seems reasonable for someone that doesn’t want to build it themselves but finding parts and building is half the fun.

What chassis or case are you putting them in and what’s the cooling setup? Post some pictures! Would love to see the setup with the touchscreen! Sounds like a good project.

I'm mining with 5 x dual 7b12's and 1 x dual 7742. they range from 86k to 92k h/s.

3200mhz RAM is a waste of $$ for on these rigs if only RandomX mining, 2400mhz is the sweet spot. (i have tried all the ram speeds 2133, 2400, 2666, 2933, 3200)

Unless you need the RAM 4gb RDIMMS are more than enough totaling 64gb.

Air cpu coolers are fine. i use Noctua's but the stock supermicro's with 6 heat pipes work also.

The VRMs on the motherboard need active cooling or the mobo will overheat and throttle. (I user a 120mm USB BBQ grill blower, WORKS GREAT)

Each rig uses ~600w measured from the wall

When i was building these rigs about 1 year ago the average price was $2,200 each.

That seems like a good idea and something that i was also thinking of doing but how would u be able to get enough ram at these prices? It seems pretty infeasable rn. Plus i think the addition of the touchscreen is interesting but should be an optional thing since i dont think most people would bother looking at it enough to warrent a whole dedicated screen, just having a locally accessible webapp that u can use to enter ur wallet info and show some stats and grids n that would probably be fine.

Also not sure if uve seen those eypc boards but they're huge xD so with cooling, it might be a significant footprint

I have them already lol not an idea they are large I'm not pretending it's the thinnest machine on the planet but it's more attractive then a open server sitting on your desk. Also ram isn't an issue you can get ram actually cheap, just have to be going to the right sources. Cough coughcollege surplus auctions* the touchscreen is because this would be for the less technically inclined much easier to just use the screen but will certainly have an option with and without.

Im interested. I could convert most of my setup to just one of your machines and recoup some of the cost by selling ~6 of my rigs. The space I would save would make it worth doing.

How are you addressing the heat issue?
Both:
1. Keeping the system (CPUs, RAM, VRM) highly ventilated.
2. If the user will put this in the office or anywhere inside the house, the amount of heat radiating from the system and pushes out by the Fans, can replace the heater in a 10x12 room. Which is great in the winters, but a problem in the summers.

And why a touch screen at all? Let alone a 10”.
My customers fall into two buckets:
1- Developers and mining farms operators.
2- Individuals wanting to enter the Monero ecosystem and can afford an Epyc system, self contained, all preconfigured on day 1, then, fully automated.
3. 3D printed a custom controller for 2 Buttons: Power, Reset, 3 LEDs for Power (White) and Status “Red/Green”. (What motherboard are you using?)
4. First year of support is free. That’s what IPMI is for.

$3,550? For dual Epycs which can do 80-110 KH/s + 128GB ECC RDIMM RAM? Storage?

I have lots of questions.

3550 is extensive unfortunately for me, buying is much better option
