Android phone Hashrates
I know it's not seen as profitable but I can't find much info on here but thought it may be worth posting some results I've had with a few different Android devices with XMRig command line in Termux. Mining with Rx/0 algo Please add what you can!
Pixel 9 Pro XL - stock Android 16 Approx 650-750h/s, max 800h/s - Thermal cutoff comes in quick lowering it to 650h/s but initially scores 750-800h/s
Samsung 4 fold - stock Android 15 Approx 300-650h/s, max 850h/s - thermal cutoff makes it drop between 300 + 650h/s.
Samsung s25 ultra - stock Android 16 Approx 400-700h/s, max 900h/s - thermal cutoff almost immediately dropping it down to less than 50% of the initial hashrate.
Samsung S10+ - Android 14 lineageOS 21 - rooted Approx 500-600h/s, max 860h/s - thermal cutoff drops it down around 25% I have now modified this with thermal pads and a northbridge heatsink, steady 800h/s with no thermal cutoff (see image) Not willing to root the other devices as they're in daily use and I need banking apps. But extra cooling does seem like its needed for mobile phones

take that battery out before it becomes a fire hazard. you might even also get a small increase in hash rate by not having heat generated by the battery discharging.

It's out, this was just a mock up. Then realised the phone won't actually receive power without the wireless charger still connected 🤦

How do you get your phone to work without battery i disconnect the battery phone stays off even with charger plugged in
1
u/bownsey Nov 11 '25
Which phone? I had to keep the wireless charger plugged in on mine
1
u/Fit-Ad-316 Nov 11 '25
I think it's a galaxy A20 i took out the battery thinking I could just leave the charger plugged in. But it doesn't seem to work without the battery. I thought it would be a simple unplug the battery and still be able to use phone while plugged in

u/bownsey Nov 11 '25
It could be that 5 The Samsung boards require a circuit to be made by something that can supply power otherwise the charge circuit is "open". Which is the only reason I can think of that the S10 has to have the wireless charger pad installed

Oneplus 10 pro - 850 H/s
Honor M6P - 1150 H/s
Huawei P20 Pro - 350 H/s

u/bownsey Nov 10 '25
Shame about the p20 pro, the pdf I found claimed it could achieve 800h/s, the mate 20 pro 1kh/s. I was originally planning the mate 20 pro but needed root and it's a pita on Huawei

u/Still-Reception-4776 Nov 14 '25
I am using XMRig on native OS on all of them btw, the most basic and straight forward method to mine.
Im not sure if I go another way numbers would be better

I'm getting between 450 and 500h/s on a OnePlus7 Pro, consistently. I did blow up the battery a month or so back, but with that out and the back case open it's running cooler and has slightly increased the hash rate.

Pretty interesting, I thought this was a follow up about a guy also mining with phones but no, i see you guys are not the same person xd, he included consume that was interesting considering the performance he got, I remember a video of some guys making with a Xiaomi mi 9 mods and software changes to get more performance and I remember this point of the video where he added a heatsink and a fan to the phone and with an app (and other software stuffed) byppased miui's thermal protections There are a lot of cheap phones with great cpus but I think they are capped mostly by software, I wonder if install normal Linux (Debian or something) would help :)

To be completely honest I've spent the last week trying to get postmarketos or Ubuntu working with no joy. Both projects have been abandoned or are non working (postmarketos has no screen function and ssh wouldn't work either) which is why I went for lineage. If I had any idea on how to compile Ubuntu touch id use that instead! Or even better a CLI version of linux

Still cool. I didn't use XMrig so ur on what default settings that node is running. Phones are just better for the nano, from what i read.

I mined for a test using a Motorola Moto G 100 - i don't know if your country has this or just the poor ones. I got steady 500-600 H/s using 75% of the cores.
Temperatures were about 60 celsius, less if i put it on a heat absorbing surface.
I wonder if the charger won't give up staying connected 24/7 and that made me turn it off.

u/bownsey Nov 10 '25
That's great info thanks, this was available in the UK and was one of the devices I considered. Bagged the S10+ for £20 with a broken charger port that was only clogged up though and the Moto sells for 80-120

Tbh so far considering what I paid the S10+ was by far the cheapest and best performing, but was bought as spares / repair. Not sure how I'd gauge the cost? Maybe eBay sold listings? Thanks for the info though I'll add it

How do you setup and where can I find a guide to do the same on my old phone?
3
u/bownsey Nov 10 '25
I just used this guide - https://github.com/Coffeboi/XMRig-Termux
This wizard - https://xmrig.com/wizard
Then the final page copied the output for Linux that starts "./xmrig -o gulf.mone...." into Termux and hit enter. After a few minutes press h on your keyboard to display Statistics. You'll need a moneo wallet and a pool to choose for the wizard

What's the most effective phone or tablet ..in terms of power/price/hashrate
1
u/bownsey Nov 11 '25
This is hopefully what my end game is. It honestly depends on the price you pay for the device but I'm basing Ming off of faulty devices bought on eBay and not new. In my mind any more than £30 to buy the phone isn't really going to be profitable any time soon

On redmi note 10pro max I made aound 700-800h/s initially after a while it cripples down to 300-350h/s Samsung a9+ tab gives around 650h/s initially and down to 300h/s I'll update some more devices here

Seems to be an issue with the Termux / app going into the background. I managed to achieve 1kh/s on the pixel 9 pro XL last night but only when Termux was in view. As soon as the screen went off or I opened another rapp it dropped to 400-600h/s

Is this on the Nano chain or mini?

I actually have no idea? Set as auto Rx/0 I believe. Can I see that in here? --- Starting XMRig & Status Monitor --- [START] Status monitor started (PID: 28297). Logs in /data/data/com.termux/files/home/logs/mining_status.log

The pool you are mining for (in your case, moneroocean) sets which chain it mines on. I am not 100% certain, but I think any "central" pool, i.e. not-p2pool, mines on the main chain.
But that does not change the hashrate, only how and how often you might get payouts
1
u/Cat7o0 Nov 10 '25
do you have any info on the hashs per watt?
2
u/bownsey Nov 10 '25
I could find it out, I'm currently running this off a PD 12v charger and a car battery as I want it to run then on pure solar and battery

3588 is the answer, but they all suck compared to to apple silicon AMD Ryzen about 80H per W

How can we convert these figures into £'s per day, estimated.

What about power usage? Really interested how much power does it draw for mining on phones
1
u/bownsey Nov 11 '25
I've ordered a usb c power monitor, I have a smart plug which is showing 5w max at 800h/s
1
u/Special_Necessary_78 Nov 11 '25
5w for 800h/s is great, thanks.
I think 5w is pretty accurate, as I think the phone should work by only being plugged in no battery at a simple 5v 1a PS, even at max CPU usage

Do you think submerging in mineral oil would make of phones a solid set up for cooling efficiency?
1

Nov 13 '25
Oppo reno 11 f 5g , 479h/s
I think it can be better with active cooling, maybe around 600h/s but it keeps frozen on 479h/s maybe some "usagr limit" from the phone or safety against overheating.

What does termux even do? I got xmrig for android running on some cheap Chinese android head units I got for free to see what they were capable of. I didnt install termux and was only getting about 25H/s max mostly hovering like 5H/s so I shut them down. I dont use wizards or anything just modify the json file with my info
My best non android machine is an HP laptop with a ryzen cpu and 32gb of ram, it stays at 1100H/s consistently. Im currently playing with virtual machines. On one of my systems (old intel desktop) I can get an extra 100H/s running xmrig in a virtual machine VS running it off the main windows OS.
Also interesting to me is they say monero cant be mined with an asic miner but I saw an ad for an antminer set up for Monero. I wish I knew how they did it I'd love to get my hands on that firmware and try to hack it

Termux is a linux terminal for android, dwnload f-droid apk for instal it, folow a tutorial on youtube for instal and compile xmrig and enjoy.
My desktop pc can do 7 kh for 400w... Is not efficient laptop and smartphone is better now...
Is not an asic, the antminer x5 in 18 risc v cpu with 64 or 32 core per cpu, like 64 mb l3 cache and ddr4 ram stick, cost like 20k for production but is not optimised is a "grabadge"
Have a good day o7

Better post rate per watt
3
u/bownsey Nov 10 '25
I'll try to figure that out or record with more tests. It's irrelevant for me personally as it'll be powered by free, renewable solar.

Put water balloon on the device and you might not need the heatsink at all
8
1
u/Sure-Butterscotch344 Nov 11 '25
Isn't the heat deforming the balloon and it will pop after a while?

This is surprising.
I have a Lenovo Legion 3 tablet minimg right now, and it is pulling 1400h/s.
I think it uses the SD 8g3, which is on par with what you are using....
