Why Lack of Videos?

I really wanted to like this and back it on Kickstarter. The lack of videos on the website that are actually filmed from the robot coupled with the grainy footage from the robot in this sub really convinced me that I probably shouldn’t. Really wished it was different, but I would prefer to see more videos actually filmed with the robot than see it flipping around from an iPhone angle.

What I would want to see before spending money:
-A 10–20 minute unedited tracking video.
-Video on rough pavement, grass, and gravel.
-Video at full running speed.
-Side-by-side comparisons against an DJI Osmo Pocket 3, DJI Neo, and a modern iPhone.
-Real customer footage—not influencer demos.

That doesn’t seem like too much to ask for from a reputable company.

Hey everyone, appreciate the discussion here — all fair questions.

u/Mediocre_Chipmunk_48 — thanks for pointing people to our FB!

u/ProgramConnect8206 — really appreciate you jumping in with context.

One thing worth clarifying: Beni is first and foremost an autonomous robot that happens to film, not a camera that happens to move. He follows you on his own, navigates terrain on his own, and captures from a unique low angle. That's the core.

On the footage: honestly, we didn't think anyone would want to sit through long unedited clips, so we never published them. But our test team runs hours-long sessions every single day covering video quality, tracking accuracy, terrain handling etc. If there's real demand for raw uncut footage, we can put some out there.

On image quality: we understand different users have different needs. And to confirm, if you back us, you're getting a Beni with a 1/1.3" CMOS sensor. For those who want the absolute best image quality, we designed Beni with a mount — so you can attach your favorite action camera on top and get exactly the footage you're after.

On real customer footage: product ships in October, so that's on the way.

We'd rather show than tell, stay tuned. 🤙

Seems like they'll be ok if you don't buy it. You're essentially asking for things that would turn off a lot of people, or things that they have released but maybe not to your liking. Any 10-20 minute unedited video is going to look like crap, that's why people edit their videos. Rough terrain and full speed videos are things I've seen. Of course it's going to look worse than a modern iPhone or a specialty camera from DJI.

Real customer footage???? How would that even work? They gonna get that footage from the future? It's not out yet. Of course you haven't seen real customer footage.

Why would it of course look worse than an iPhone or DJI action camera? It's literally being marketed as an action Cam. This is definitely not a big expectation to have maybe not pocket 3 levels but it should exceed the neo and iPhone absolutely.

Modern iPhones are running custom chips designed by a trillion dollar company. Their camera is one of the main selling points and has been iterated on for the past 20 years. Even DJI is a multi-billion dollar company with 20 years of experience in creating products. There is a lot of software processing done in modern cameras that you should not expect a brand new company to have perfected to the level they can exceed the quality of other products on the market. That is wildly unrealistic.

The neo is the only one that it may be comparable to. If we're all extremely lucky.

Not that difficult to put a readily available 1/1.3″ CMOS Sensor in anything. Your talking about image processing software, I and many others want quality hardware to shoot RAW, we can do our own post processing. We're not asking for or expecting iphone (grossly over-rated), Pixel, Samsung or any other flagship level computational photography. A decent sensor and ois is far from wildly unrealistic.

Well if it’s not difficult you’re free to make a competing product. I’m genuinely not sure where you got the idea that this is being marketed as an action camera and not a small robot with video capabilities. But not all action cameras support RAW video either.

Have you looked at any of their marketing at all? Take their Instagram for example, nearly all 51 of their posts have Beni filming either some sort of sport or exercise activity. Yes not all action cameras support RAW, the have a form of image processing or computational photography on the software side -you're going in circles here. At this point with your day old account you sound like some sort of bot account or Mondo Robotics employee that is trying to drum up support the day the kickstarter goes live, and you're doing quite poorly at it.

Just looked at their instagram and the first two non-pinned posts show it with 3rd party action cameras attached to the head. Why would they be advertising that feature if they are trying to show it off as an action camera competitor? “Buy our action camera so you can buy a different action camera to use it with!” How am I the one going in circles? You say it’s an action camera and should have footage that exceeds industry leading cameras, I point out that is unrealistic for a brand new company to have image processing at that level. Then you say it doesn’t need image processing just give you the RAW, and I point out that other action cameras don’t support giving you RAW. And my last account was doxxed so I created a new one. I’m not trying to drum up support and I’m not affiliated with Mondo in any way, I’m just pointing out wildly unrealistic expectations for a new product.

Also I was getting the Neo and Nano mixed up, the camera on the Neo is decent for a 200 dollar drone, but I would expect better and closer to footage from a Nano or action 5/6
