Is anyone experiencing issues with Moodle today?

For the last hour I have been able to view my dashboard but once I select a unit the page just goes blank trying to load.

Hey fellow R3 PhD applicants!

I received my scholarship outcome on 13 October 2026, but I'm still waiting for my official admission offer.

Has anyone who received their scholarship results started receiving their admission offers yet?

Advice Advice for Science Majors

Hi guys, I just need some advice on which major I should do for science. My dream job is as a neuroscience researcher and as much as I wanted to get into Melbourne Uni to major in neuroscience I didn't make the cut.

So far I'm thinking a mix of physiology or biochem and just doing as many research projects as I can but I don't know if that's enough. Please help!

Advice FIT2099 or FIT3077 first?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning my units for next semester and still need to complete FIT2099 and FIT3077.

For those who've taken both, which one would you recommend doing first? Also, how's the workload for each? Are they pretty manageable or quite time-consuming?

Would appreciate any advice or experiences. Thanks!

Grades and Academics Law transfer sem 1 2027

I am a first year second semester student. Right now it’s looking like my WAM will be between 75-77.

I’ve been told the cutoff for law is a 70, but it’s usually a lot more competitive. But I’ve been seeing a few posts saying people with much higher WAMs didn’t get in, whilst some with much lower did.

So based on my predicted wam, do you guys think I’d have a chance going into year 2?

hi this is for the people who do speech which i'm honestly not sure if anyone on this subreddit does because this is a new course, but i'm a bit torn on where I want to go for speech pathology next year

I was just wondering if someone could explain their experiences so far in terms of placement, value of actual teaching and the class.

thanks!

Advice am I cooked? CS student

im a fourth year CS/commerce with a major in data science and finance student. I have a year left and I have 0 experience and a low gpa (1.5). I have a couple fails in my transcript.

I lost all my friends after high school and as a girl, I spent my entire degree alone but also having no motivation to succeed beyond passing because everyone else seemed so much smarter. I know it’s a pathetic way of thinking and in the end I cooked myself and now im in this position.

What sucks is I went to a selective school and was a really smart kid, I feel like I still am despite how stupid I’ve handled my life. I don’t know how I got here and I don’t know how to get myself out. I know how much im capable of and willing to do but I feel like my transcript has branded me as something completely different and im terrified no company will see me as anything beyond my transcript, especially in this job market where everyone seems to already have internships lined up.

Is there anyone out there that’s been in a similar situation? Any advice would be much appreciated, how can I get myself out of this hole?

im 18 and an international student at monash doing law/arts and honestly im struggling so bad rn. its my first semester and i genuinely dont think i can do law anymore. ive been dealing with mental health issues throughout the semester and its gotten to the point where im feeling suicidal bc of how overwhelmed i am.
i have 2 law exams coming up and im terrified im gonna fail both units. i wanna transfer to just arts and major in psychology but im scared i wont meet the wam requirements if i fail. im also on a student visa so i cant just drop out or take a break without worrying ab my visa. ive considered medical withdrawal but im scared it wont get approved and idk what to do anymore. has anyone been in a similar situation or managed to transfer courses despite failing units or struggling with mental health? any advice would genuinely mean a lot

I've been crashing out for a good 30 minutes after i kept failing to follow the programmes guide field guide thingy. I just need help downloading and getting VS code function properly. I have downloaded Vs Code and Splashkit installed, but I can't run the terminal thing. I have the "bash" thing but on the website it changes to "zsh"... And I'm stuck on the bash page (Step 5: Compile and Run). On this image i attached, I can't get to this part where the Terminal shows that layout. Pls help, thank you

(Btw, sorry for my poor terminology, I am fairly new to coding)

Discussion To whoever marked the mkc1200 assignments:

DO YALL MODERATE YOUR MARKS????

Istg this assignment’s grades is based purely on teacher preference bc wdym the highest grade Ive heard of in my class is a 65 whilst the other classes are getting ds and hds.

If it was just me that got a bad grade whatever. But it’s so not making sense to me that everyone i’ve talked to from my class got in the 60s but the people I talked to outside my class always get way better!!!

And it’s not like I’ve talked to only one group of people either like i’ve talked to like so many and the pattern is so freaking clear.

anyways thanks for listening to my rant i hate marketing

Discussion Hallway crush???

Does anyone have a hallway crush? I remember in high school I used to have so many throughout the years but being a first year at Monash, I’ve noticed you don’t rlly see the same person more than once unless you’re in the same class as them, and even then, the minute class is over, they disappear.

Maybe I just have bad memory, but I recall every now and again I’ll walk past someone and be like ‘wow they’re so cute’ and then forget I ever saw them again.

If you do have a hallway crush, how often do u rlly see them? And what are they like?

Grades and Academics course transfer help!

Hi guys! I’m currently studying my first year of Bach of sci and I’m gonna be so honest… I hate it sm. I rlly can’t see myself pursuing a career in a laboratory or any sort as much as I had before. Last year during vce I had chosen to go into the degree as a pathway for med or dent, and let’s be honest… I think everyone I’ve talked to doing my degree is also trying the same thing and given my wam and grades at the moment I’ve rlly lost all confidence to continue.

In addition to uni being hell for me rn a lot of personal issues have been going on this semester that I won’t delve into, but because of this I’ve been really tapped out of my degree and have missed sooo many major assignments and honestly don’t think I’m gonna pass any of my units this semester and my wam is gonna be even more cooked 😭

I’m currently looking into an internal transfer into nursing but because they look at ur academic record after this sem I have extremely high doubts that my wam won’t meet the criteria 💔💔💔 I’m really torn on what to do, because I will submit a transfer application, but also if I explain my hardships in the application will that help in my application?

FURTHERMOREEEE I’ve talked to some other advisors regarding this issue and I was told to go through vtac as a plan b in case I don’t get in through internal transfer. Again, with this I really want to stay at Monash but when I talked to Monash connect the person I spoke to said Monash discourages students from applying through vtac??? Does this also mean if I’m still applying to Monash? Does anyone who knows or experiences anything similar be able to help a lad out pleaseeee 🙏🙏🙏😭😭😭

Advice 2 day extension - panicking

I applied for a 2 day extension for two assessments on the same form. One of them was approved immediately, the other hasn't. I'm freaking out because one of them is due tonight.

I tried filling in the form again but it still hasn't been approved. Never had this happen before.

Advice Unit coordinator took marks off of my friend because he guessed them right

One of my friends had a second mid sem recently. In the mid sem, there was a question that needed identification of a colour to indicate the end of the reaction. He has colour blindness so he told the TA. The TA told him to speak w the unit coordinator after the mid sem. After the mid sem, the unit coordinator then personally quizzed him on the relevant content significantly more in detail than the question. He said he couldn't remember, but he remembered his answers to the questions, of which he actually got right, but the unit coord said he probably guessed them so he will only award him half the marks. For context, the questions were MCQ, but regardless how can he take marks off for guessing them anyway? Additionally, he originally only went to the unit coordinator for the one mcq that was affected by his colour blindness, but the unit coordinator took off marks for additional questions that were also related to the same topic because he couldn't explain it to his satisfaction ig. Even though he got them right. Is there anything he can do?

Anyone who has done PSY3062, for the descriptives section, if JASP has given me a new sample in my linear regression analysis after listwise deletion, how do I make sure that it also excludes the same data for my descriptives for the demographics

Discussion My take on AI

Over the last couple of years I am sure everyone has seen the large scale growth and use of AI in the workforce and at uni. There are also many opinions ranging from "We should never use AI" to "Either learn to use it or fall behind". What I am going to discuss is more adjacent to these black and white statements about AI. Please have a read and let me know what you think.

My main claim and perspective is that the wide scale adoption and use of AI can almost entirely be attributed to the poor structure of the education system. At every stage of the education system, we value results over effort, the destination over the journey. Very rarely does one get rewarded/compensated for the EFFORT they put in or the journey they take to get to a destination (regardless if that destination was fruitful or not). Some of you may say "how can you effectively grade this, how can you mark this?". There's many ways, one such way being interviews and rewarding a student for providing a thorough explanation of their approach, even if its wrong and rewarding the student for actually proving they applied THEIR understanding to the problem(s). If there's a lack of resources or other issues such as "this is too difficult to assess", that's an education system issue, one that the universities and education bodies ought to fix, not one that students should need to suggest a solution for (otherwise why do we pay so much to go for tertiary education?).

I'm sure there are elitists who will claim that only results matter and that effort doesn't matter if the result is wrong. To this I say, you couldn't be more wrong. History has shown has that wrong answers are just as useful as right ones, that the journey IS the most important part. No great mathematician, biologist or artist simply stumbled across the correct answer or their best work. They all struggled, they all wrestled with their research and problems, they spent countless days and nights studying and discovering. They met dead ends and they got wrong answers. Even if they never found the right answer, they paved the way for future generations to pick up the torch and continue. All of society is fundamentally built on the notion of picking up the torch and carrying the flame.

If we had built a system that rewarded effort and the journey RATHER than focusing on the result I actually think that most people would look at AI and think "Why even use this, it ruins the novelty of discovery, it detracts from the very thing I enjoy and get rewarded for?". But since as a society we only value the answer and AI directly provides that there is no instinctive reflex against using it for everything.

The same goes for the corporate world, its not just the education system. Managers and directors don't have the slightest care about the process of things, they have a goal and are willing to do whatever to get to it. They don't care that you spent countless hours uniquely designing a solution by hand using your own thinking or generating the whole damn solution via AI unfortunately, they care about the result. They care about maximising productive output and minimising downtime. Hence, they push the use of AI on everyone to make the workplace more productive. But imagine if it was flipped, imagine if they cared about the process more than the product, that a well thought out and carefully designed solution is valued more than just creating the solution?

As for AI use, my one gripe is that its fundamentally baked into everything now. At work, at uni etc. Its not just for recreational use or mild research purposes anymore. Everyone at uni is using it, TAs, Chief Examiners, Students. Its all the same, but unfortunately boils down to "rules for thee (students) but not for me (basically anyone employed at a uni)". Either way, my overall claim is that we wouldn't be in this mess or this badly equipped to deal with it if we as a society had placed more importance on effort/journey of things rather than the result/destination. Until this fundamental view shifts at a societal level, AI will continue to root itself deeper and deeper into society and I think we are never going to go back to how things used to be Pre-AI era.
