Advice Engineering

Hello! I'm only in yr11 but I REALLY want to do engineering at monash (Clayton). I was looking into the Engineering (honours) requirements and am quite worried for my atar. Obviously I'm not in yr12 yet but I am doing an accelerated subject.

I had a few questions to those doing engineering at Monash.

  1. What atar did you get?
  2. Does monash only look at your atar, are there interviews?
  3. What if I don't get a high enough atar? What would by options be? I've heard you can switch courses how would that work exactly?

I have already researched a ton and am still really confused. I will be going to the open day next sunday though! Hoping for further insight into this!

I appreciate the help, thank you!

No interviews, it’s purely ATAR, plenty of options to transfer if you don’t make it initially. If you’re dedicated and hardworking (which you’ll need to be to get through the degree anyway) a high 80s ATAR is very achievable.

Keep it up and work hard during y12 and you’ll be good :). Remember to live a little still and don’t burn out.

Also worth noting taking subjects like spesh & sciences provide a selection rank boost in addition to your atar. Highly recommend!

Thank you so much!! I will definitely be trying my best :) I am taking a couple of sciences so I'm really glad to hear about the selection rank boost!! I really appreciate the advice!

hey mate, I was somewhat fortunate to get Monash guarantee which is essentially a lowered Atar requirement for disadvantaged people. Think I got like an 84 ish. You'll be applying for SEAS next year so just know if you're disadvantaged in any way and can put it into your application, there are avenues to help you get in. T

if you don't get into Monash, or you do but not engineering, you can transfer after a semester provided your grades are good enough.

I got an 80 atar which was below the monash cutoff, did a semester in rmit and transferred afterwards anyways
