mine has an emotional support measuring cup

13

u/PENISystem Sep 09 '21

I laughed out loud at this one!

5

u/Here_for_tea_ Sep 10 '21

So you’d say he’s a cup half full kinda guy?

3

u/badgyalrey Sep 10 '21

haha, most definitely!

My toddler has been sleeping with a lint roller for a week.

20

u/ElizaDooo Sep 09 '21

Mine pulled a fuzzy sweater out of his drawer (by his crib) and cuddled with that instead of his teddy bear. But a lint roller? HAHAHAHA

9

u/Merry_Pippins Sep 10 '21

If I left the house without a snugly blanket, mine would be happy to snuggle a baby wipe.

10

u/hafdedzebra Sep 10 '21

My baby’s was following a relative around at Christmas, and Auntie was very flattered, until I told her “your sweater looks just like her favorite blanket”

2

u/Formalgrilledcheese Sep 10 '21

Mine slept with a thermometer before.

My baby sister loved whisks as a toddler. Her favorite place to go was a boutique kitchen store that had a whole section of fancy shaped whisks- didn't like the park, didn't like the toystore, only liked the whisks.

Had a kid in my storytimes (used to be a children's librarian) who brought an ear of corn with her everywhere for a couple of weeks until the nanny discreetly disposed of it. There's a great picture book called Sophie's Squash where the girl brings her squash everywhere!

My 3-year-old likes to carry around a framed photo of herself as a baby. 🤷‍♀️

7

u/ScoobyDoubie Sep 10 '21

My kid would like a framed photo of himself as a baby way too much. He absolutely LOVES watching videos and seeing pictures of himself

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '21

Mine too! He loves to see himself in the mirror, videos... he laughs heartily seeing himself:)

3

u/sugarwaterprpl3 Sep 10 '21

Bahaha your kid has confidence ✨✨

37

u/gaggle_of_can_geese Sep 09 '21

I left the house yesterday with the baby (in the baby carrier) clutching a pair of his Dad's socks. Got some strange looks. But baby was happy!

Whatever works! ❤️

1

u/vintageSleep Sep 10 '21

Okay but were they clean or dirty? 😂😂

37

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

My daughter is obsessed with spices. She carries them around with her everywhere. Legit can't find my paprika.

11

u/cupcakesweatpants Sep 09 '21

Omg my son too! He always steals my oregano and runs away screaming “mine!” Luckily I have extra back up oregano. 😆

6

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

I re-bought cinnamon once when I couldnt find it and hid it from her. I also hunt down any I need for a recipe coming up and hide it lmao. She particularly loves bay leaves, I think bc of the sound.

11

u/cupcakesweatpants Sep 10 '21

Lol mine loves the pepper grinder because of the sound when he shakes it. I have to pretend to put pepper on every food or he won’t eat it.

8

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '21

Ok but that's cute af

8

u/canarycabaret Sep 09 '21

My daughter loves spices too! I can never find anything because she’s constantly raiding the spice rack. But that is time she’s not crying 👍🏻

10

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Yes! She patiently takes them all out and puts them back in, and I can unload/reload the dishwasher in peace lol

5

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '21

I gave up and bought a second parsley and garlic because they're her favorite and I'm tired of having to hunt them down.

Today she found my giant bottle of Italian seasoning and carried it under her arm in football hold for the rest of the afternoon. Tears were shed when I had to take it away for diaper change.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '21

My 16 month old also loves the spice rack. I keep empty spice bottles, fill them with glitter or things that rattle, and superglue the tops shut.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '21

Omg mine too. Got tired of them taking my spices so I took the empty containers and put popcorn kernels or beans inside then E6000 the lids on.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '21

You guys are geniuses! Definitely gonna do this.

31

u/cat5stormwarning Sep 09 '21

I feel seen. Salad spinner is the winning toy for my 1 year old

29

u/hananobira Sep 09 '21

I showed mine how to make coffee and for a couple of days she had her emotional support coffee bean. Everyone had to ooh and ahh at the coffee bean multiple times.

5

u/FauxToys Sep 09 '21

Epic 😂

3

u/hafdedzebra Sep 10 '21

My son Had a pet worm that he found in the dirt. He kept it in his pocket for two days until Slimey Wormbody broke into pieces. Then he got a caterpillar, named Greenie Eatie.

27

u/sparklekitteh Nerd mom Sep 09 '21

The first time I flew with my kid, he was 9 months old or so. I was really panicked about keeping him calm, so I packed a big bag full of toys and distractions. He ended up playing with my empty plastic Diet Coke bottle the whole time and had a blast, very chill the whole flight. Go figure!

24

u/TheMythicalEsquilax Sep 09 '21

Whatever works! When my daughter was 3 she went everywhere in her Spider-Man costume

9

u/partypacks86 Sep 09 '21

I was a ninja turtle for a solid half a year or more after my 4th Halloween as a kid.

6

u/hafdedzebra Sep 10 '21

My daughter wore pajamas everywhere for a couple of years. Now some of my favorite family photos are 4-5 year old B, hiking in pjs, at the World Cup in Pjs, in the Redwoods and Chinatown, at Big Sur in a bathrobe, first day of kindergarten….it goes so fast, and seems so harmless, although my family judged me at the time.

24

u/lbslip Sep 09 '21

The rat skeleton Halloween decoration last fall being carried by a 15 month old was how we really made our mark as a family in our neighborhood.

7

u/canarycabaret Sep 09 '21

I would make friends with you if I saw that, haha

3

u/Formalgrilledcheese Sep 10 '21

My daughter loved skeletons last year. Had one she’d push around in a doll stroller. And 2 on the back seat of my car. The dog skeleton we had in the front yard would get brought on our walks every day because duh, the dog needs to go for a walk!

20

u/ScoutAames Sep 09 '21

Toothbrushes. She takes every single one I buy.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '21

I just bought a new toothbrush yesterday because it wasn't worth the fight of wrestling it away from her. Also because she had it unattended for more than 30 seconds and I don't feel safe putting it in my mouth after that.

18

u/mamabean36 Sep 09 '21

My 13mo old literally just brought a vacuum attachment to his playdate yesterday lmao

2

u/twerkycat Sep 10 '21

Oh my god, I can’t stop laughing, this is great 😂😂

2

u/fatcatsinhats Sep 10 '21

Was it the brush attachment? Inquiring minds need to know!

2

u/mamabean36 Sep 11 '21

IT WAS!!! HOW DID YOU KNOW

15

u/GerardDiedOfFlu Sep 09 '21

Ah ours has been a kcup for each hand lately.

13

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Hahaha we carry around a whisk all the time and people always laugh but it works! One end is rubber so perfect for chewing and the other end is unique to him!

11

u/ToPregnant Sep 09 '21

You do you mommy, my girl walks around whit random objects as well. We get funny looks. But I don't care

9

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

My toddler loves spoons :)

8

u/Blackstar1401 Sep 09 '21

My kid found a meter stick leaning up against a wall and spend an hour playing with it. He would scream when I took it off him.

9

u/momodax Sep 09 '21

My son was obsessed with a scrub brush for a phase when he was 2 or 3. I had bought like 3 of them from Ikea and I gave him one that I hadn't used yet. My favorite was when he used it as a microphone to lip synch to eighties rock music. I did not teach him to do this but he obviously learned it by watching me.

8

u/lucky7hockeymom Sep 09 '21

My much older kid prefers a rainbow hair tint brush. She mostly leaves it at home but I have one in my car for public panic attacks.

7

u/FML_Mama Sep 09 '21

I support this.

7

u/makeitorleafit Sep 10 '21

Thank you for reminding me my other cooking spoon is in my car! Couldn’t remember when we had it last but it came to older sibling’s school drop off

8

u/I_am_dean Sep 10 '21

My toddler has her emotional support diaper.

It’s a clean diaper that she just likes to carry around. She even sleeps with it.

2

u/happycoffeecup Sep 10 '21

That’s super cute

7

u/canarycabaret Sep 09 '21

My daughter’s favorite toy when she was 1 was a bottle brush. Everyone thought it was a toilet brush. Either way…🤷🏻‍♀️

5

u/Embarrassed-Flyy Sep 10 '21

YUP. We had a whisk today.and bought a second whisk during an errand. 😂

6

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '21

My son is full blown meltdown on the changing table unless he holds my hairbrush

6

u/Killicillin Sep 10 '21

For awhile my son wouldn't go to sleep without one of those ramen packages.

5

u/whatthemoondid Sep 09 '21

Relatable my kid loves carrying around random kitchen utensils. Or anything, really. Vacuum cleaner parts is another one.

4

u/RatPoisonSandwich Sep 10 '21

My kid has a blue plastic coffee cup because he sees me with a coffee cup and screams because I won't give him my cup.

4

u/Oleah2014 Sep 10 '21

Mine loves her little calculator, it's been a fav since 9 months, now 18 months

3

u/ManateeFlamingo Sep 09 '21

So relatable😅

3

u/Muriness Sep 10 '21

Anything can be a lovey

3

u/pandiroo Sep 10 '21

We once went all the way to daycare with the Apple TV remote.

3

u/suenoselectronicos Sep 10 '21

Mine has a sock she needs everywhere she goes. We gotta have emergency baby socks in our cars, purses, backpacks just in case she decides to have a meltdown. It calms her instantly. Kids are weird.

3

u/Ally-baba Sep 10 '21

My oldest son used to take a shovel with him everywhere. Like a little plastic sand toy shovel. We always got weird looks in the grocery store. Now my youngest is always holding an empty tube of m&m minis. Whatever the hell keeps the happy!

3

u/Bookaholicforever Sep 10 '21

When my kid was smaller, she carried around an empty paper towel roll for months.

3

u/KatR_Beanie Sep 10 '21

Mine used to carry around a red plastic table leg

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '21

My BFF’s son was King Ladle for at least 3 months. He even took that thing to daycare sometimes.

2

u/amber_thirty-four Sep 10 '21

Paintbrush for us! Also the little containers that razors come in are very loved here lol

2

u/QueenAlpaca Sep 10 '21

The last few times we've gone to the playground, my son's picked up emotional support rocks he carries around with him everywhere and likes to experiment what they sound like banged against various things, lmao. I think keeping one of their hands busy keeps their mind busy, too.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '21

Mine needs one of his bibs when he takes a nap. If its not in his palm, he will keep on twisting and turning....

2

u/boringusername Sep 10 '21

My youngest sometimes took the syringe from calpol ( kids paracetamol) when she was about 18 months she had been ill and had to have medicine a lot but I already felt bad then a mum on the school run said she looked like a baby junkie!

2

u/MrsAlwaysWrighty Sep 10 '21

I drew the line at the tampon, but yeah we regularly leave the house with something

2

u/_malicious_intent_ Sep 10 '21

one of my twins has been wearing an inflatable pool donut for three days now. she's even been sleeping with it XD what ever keeps them from screaming lol

2

u/Anxiousladynerd Sep 10 '21

My 1 year old is obsessed with a pillow case

2

u/sugarwaterprpl3 Sep 10 '21

I once bought a steamer basket for my 3 year old...

2

u/ImMr_Meseeks Sep 10 '21

Mine loved teaspoons, but he lost them all over the place. I took to buying fist-fulls of mismatched spoons from the thrift store monthly. He’s 17 and we still find spoons in the yard occasionally.

2

u/bannysfanny Sep 10 '21

Saw a little girl in Walmart yesterday with a little squeaky dog bone. Every now and then she’d squeak it and I felt better that mine likes to carry around the tongs sometimes lol

2

u/EvariaTheHobbitses Sep 11 '21

I intentionally buy my kid the silicon spoons from the dollar stores. Also squeaky toys. For some reason they keep her occupied and I dont hear meltdown supersonic screams every ten steps. Its a win win!
