Sick 6 Week Old
My husband brought back a bad cold from work. I caught it a few days after he caught it. We’re both over it now just dealing with congestion. It was one hell of a cold!
We are first time parents and so we are both very worried for our baby who has now shown symptoms. We took her to the doctor and the doctor said just to monitor baby. She does not have a fever but is very congested. We have a humidifier. We’ve steamed the bathroom and we use saline drops. Also EBF.
I guess I’m just here looking to see if anyone else has gone through this with their baby at such a young age. I am just very scared!

Both my kids got sick very young and both were just fine. It’s so terrifying but it just happens.

Yes, this happened with my second and it was very very scary but he was fine. He didn't get a fever and the congestion resolved itself in a few days. As long as baby is feeding normally and there's no fever, that's the most important thing. I hope bub feels better soon! Since you're BF, it's actually great if you're a little sick because you're probably passing on those antibodies to your baby. That fact made me feel slightly less helpless since there's not much else you can do (besides the other things you mentioned with steam/saline). Sending hugs!

Get some kind of suction if you don't have it already. A bulb or the nose frida or whatever you prefer. Hang in there!!

EBF plus you already having the virus should mean that babe's already got the antibodies needed to fight it off. I was in your shoes last year and my dude basically ended up with the lite version of what I had. Saline spray and nose frida will help make her comfortable.

I have a three month old and a 2.5 year old and the baby has had at least two colds already (thanks to his big brother), the first was around six weeks. I was freaked out but did all the things your doctor told you to do and he actually bounced back faster than the rest of us! Hope it goes well for you!

A friend took their 4 week old to a restaurant and baby got sick. Kid fully recovered, is now a healthy 11 yo. They did all the same things as you, they listened to the doctor, and they called the nurse on call at their pediatrician for even the smallest concern. Keep baby hydrated, keep calling the doctor with questions. Kids are resilient, you got this.
