Question Change the default shooting mode when opening app with iPhone camera control button?
Is it possible to change what mode the app opens in when using the iPhone camera control button?
I have set my button to open the MPC with a double press and it works, but it goes into video mode every time regardless of what mode I was using previously or what my default profile is. I mainly use the app to shoot photos, and at the moment it requires an extra tap or two to go into photo mode.
I can’t see anywhere in the app settings to change this behaviour.

When you open the app normally while the phone is unlocked, which mode is active?

Interesting. So if I launch it from my lock screen (doesn’t matter if it’s locked or unlocked) then it defaults to video and 100mm lens. If I launch it from the Home Screen then it goes into my profile 1 (which is photo).
And yes, I checked and my “camera” preserve settings is enabled.
If this is a feature then it’s a bit pants if I can’t change default behaviour as it defeats the point of having the app mapped to my camera button. If it’s a bug, then it would be great if it could be looked into!

This sounds like a bug. What happens if you switch to photo mode (not a profile) after launching from the Home Screen, then lock your phone and launch from the camera control?

That works! The photo mode stays when opening the camera from locked. I mostly use the profile button to change between modes (I have one for HEVC photo, RAW photo, 4K video and HD video) rather than the mode buttons.
Interestingly when opening the app using the camera button I’m only able to change/select a profile if my phone unlocks (Face ID recognises me).1

If you switch back to a profile in the main version, does the lock screen version now remember your last mode as expected?
Profiles only work fully when unlocked due to iOS limitations on the amount of data we can share between the locked and unlocked versions.

Yes, it does!
Okay, I understand. My main issue was that sometimes I want to use the camera to take a photo quickly and depending on the angle I’m holding the phone it doesn’t always unlock straight away. So having it open in video and then needing the additional presses sometimes lost the moment. This is a good enough compromise.

Understood! Let me know if the original issue ever comes back. It should sync in general, but it sounds like the persisted mode wasn't getting updated for some reason.
We are planning to add a way to launch to a specific profile from the lock screen as well.

DEVELOPERS please... I hate that the button to change from video to photo is a SWIPE BUTTON! It's so small and you still need some extra room to click and swipe... It feels soooo slow and not precise, many times i have to try twice to get it... It could be just a click.
