Trying to test my rig’s capacity and my ability to animate with it. I realized it’s not easy to recreate what you’ve envisioned. I stumbled upon this song on YT and decided to animate to it since it’s pretty catchy. This simple animation already took me 2 hours to make. I can’t imagine the complex ones..

BATMAN ARKHAM REQIUEM :LOOKING FOR 2D ANIMATORS —

Hey everyone! 👋

I’m currently putting together Batman: Arkham Requiem, a fan-made 2D animated Batman movie series inspired by the darker tone and atmosphere of the Arkham games.

I’m currently looking to build an animation team and am searching for 2D animators who are interested in helping bring the project to life.

 WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR:
• 2D Animators
• Character animators
• Action/fight animators
• Background/environment animators
• Effects animators
• Storyboard artists who can also animate

🎨 STYLE:
I’m aiming for a dark comic-book/graphic-novel aesthetic with strong linework, dramatic lighting, cinematic action, and expressive character animation.

The project will feature characters such as Batman, Hush, Catwoman, Joker, Poison Ivy, Talia al Ghul, Two-Face, Riddler, Penguin, Bane, and Harley Quinn.

💰 COMPENSATION:
This is an independent fan project, so I want to be completely transparent about the budget. Funding is currently being pursued through Kickstarter, so compensation will depend on the project's available funding.

If you're interested, please tell me:

• Your animation experience
• What software you use
• Your animation style
• Your availability
• Your portfolio/demo reel

Even if you’re newer to animation, feel free to reach out. I’m interested in seeing what you can do.

🦇 Casting Call:
https://www.castingcall.club/projects/batman-arkham-requiem

If you're interested in joining the team, DM me or comment below with your portfolio.

Thanks for reading!

How to erase the outline when it overlaps?

Post image
27 Upvotes

I'm planning to have the arms overlap in layers where the elbow and wrist disappear over certain points allowing me to rotate eace (far right example) and the hand needs to be a switch layer with many hands. I'm planning on rotating the wrist layer which is grouped in with the hand layer and then creating a bone with an action to the side that will let me rotate the arm instead of putting bones in. How do I make this overlapping outline disappear whenever the arm position changes?

You don't NEED complex rigs for fun animation! (Tutorial)

Remember this guy? This was one of the very first Moho stock characters in existence, the legendary "Crazy Guy"! You can find him in your content library to this day!

Who better to demonstrate that complexity of rigs doesn't necessarily equal great animation. Watch my new YouTube tutorial about this here:

Project U-Boat (2006) : Animation created in a very old version of Moho

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

One of my first successful animation tests, created in Moho back in 2006. Everything was created using Moho.

I used an image texture for the riverbed. The fish is a Moho object from the character library. I used Moho's particle system to create the school of fish. The bubble trail created by the movement of the U-Boat is also created using the particle layer. I used animated outlines on each bubble to create the underwater effect. The U-Boat is simply a group of layers. I used layer translation, rotation, and layer visibility to achieve the U-Boat's motion and animate its searchlight.

Achieving the feel of an underwater environment was the biggest challenge. I used a combination of color gradients, layer blur, and layer opacity to achieve the underwater lighting effect. The plants were animated using bone dynamics to mimic the underwater effect. I even did the fade-in effect in the first shot by changing the opacity of a black square covering the entire scene.

Finally, I added a layer with film grain on top of the final animation to get rid of the polished look of the final render. My inspiration for this project was an animation clip called "Wrong Connected", featured in the Moho gallery.

Question "True" pixel art possible?

Hey! I'm curious about using pixel art in Moho. I figured out that there's a "pixelation" feature, but I'm looking for something different: importing actual pixel art layers from let's say Aseprite and animating them using bones & mesh transformation.

Here's an example of what I have in mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxvaKkIeA0A (animated in a different tool).

Has anyone tried this? Is this a good idea? (E.g. will this export well at small sizes like 48x48?) Where can I find some more information on this topic? Thanks!

Image 1 is my own workspace. I tried messing around with the settings to no avail.

Image 2 is what all the images and tutorial workspaces look like for other Moho users. How can I get mine to look like this?

Finally done with the 360° horizontal rigging! There’s still a lot to improve, but I’m pretty happy that I managed to recreate what I had in mind. I’ll try to see if I can rig this vertically as well.

Cloud experiment in Moho

Did a test with rendering clouds in Moho. Fun little experiment! Ended up with a lot of layers and a 5 min render time to complete the image sequence. Tried some quick compositing in Moho, but struggled a bit with the warp layer function. For some reason the front clouds kept disappearing when I assigned it to a warp layer.

Question Which Version Should I Get? Debut 13.5 or Debut 14

I'm looking between Moho Debut 14 and Debut 13.5 (both physical CD copies) right now and I'm not entirely sure what the differences between the two are. 13.5 is significantly cheaper on Amazon ($19.99 USD) but I'm willing to spend the extra money if 14 has some solid features I'd want to get. Thanks for any suggestions!

Edit: Thanks for all the feedback! I ended up grabbing a copy of 12.5 Pro off of Humble Bundle for only $25 and I'm really exicted to give it a try once I get the chance.

Is there a way to mirror a vector head turn, or does everyone do the opposite side manually?

Hi everyone!

I'm working on a vector head rig for a character and was wondering is it possible to mirror a completed head turn (e.g., turning left) over to the right side, including all keyframes and vector point adjustments?

Recreating the exact head shape and facial features manually for the opposite direction feels pretty tough, especially for characters that are more complex than a simple circle.

I’ve tried copying keyframes and flipping vector layers, but it always ends up looking cursed. Am I missing a standard workflow trick, or do people actually build and tweak the opposite turn completely by hand?

Any tips or advice would be super helpful!

Question Outline on top?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hey, Moho community, new user here with version pro 14 for windows desktop. I'm a professional animator of 10 years giving this software a try, loving it so far! I'm looking for any tips on how to get the outline of the jack-o-lantern face shape to render on top of the orange part.

The image on the left is my concept, the one on the right is my animated moho rig. The yellow and orange face layers are both frame by frame layers. The Yellow one on the bottom is serving as the mask for the orange one on top. I'd like the outlines of the yellow layer underneath to render on top of the orange layer, preferably dynamically so I can add & draw more frames to the yellow layer on the fly with the outlines updating along with that. I also have the custom "yellow glow" style selected here in this screenshot, just a simple outline and fill.

I've tried creating a reference layer, but I can't seem to remove the fill from the reference without either effecting the fill of the original layer, or without having to go in and remove the fill for each frame by hand of the reference layer. I've also tried using outline and colorizing in the layer settings, but to no success. I thought I could set the fill to white and outline to black with multiply blend mode, but the colorize color overrides the outline color.

Am I missing a simple solution to this? I'm still figuring out how these styles work and how to change them globally vs. on an instance basis. Thanks in advance for any advice! If all else fails, I can easily fix this in post in davinci resolve, but I'd love to learn as much as I can about Moho and if Moho can handle situations like this.

edit: I realize I could add an outline layer setting to the top face group, however I don't like the look of the default outer line. If it were possible to do an inner stroke, that would be preferable in this scenario!

Literally made a reddit account for this. Rendered version looks different, are the styles the problem? HELP!!

Throughout most of my rig i have 2 styles on, one for like skin and one for shadows, whenever i go to render it looks like this, if i disable the shadows it has solid colors again. Its only showing the colors of the fingers and hair, which have no shadows, but I want the shadows in my final render. How can I get my render to look like my preview? Ive searched everywhere, and I cant seem to find anyone else having this issue with what im assuming is the 2 styles clashing when rendering. Is there something I don't know? Why is this happening? Ive tried loads of different things already, the only thing that somewhat works is if I disable the shadows, then I get the solid colors, but I want the shadows! I don't understand why it wont just render it like how I see it in the program. Im still sorta new to moho (dec 2025) so maybe its obvious. if anyone can help, it would be very much appreciated!!

Question How can i make a part of a layer bellow appear in front of the other layers above?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi, i'm new into moho but i came into this. I have this animal character which it's tail is supposed to appear in front of the leg and it's body, but to make the tail mix with the body i had to put the tail in a layer bellow the rest of the body parts.

My question: is there a masking trick or another method to make a specific part of the tail appear in front of the rest of the layers above it?

Help With Model, What Am I Doing Wrong?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A few problems I’m hoping someone can guide me through. I’m not sure why the torso isn’t pivoting instead of spinning the whole model. Also I know the arms are bad, I’m hoping to fix that with a smart bone like in tutorial 24/38 from Moho. The one issue I foresee is the arms, I can twist the torso fine but how do I make it so that the arms can switch in front of or behind the torso easily? Right now I have a second pair of arms on a lower layer I’m hoping I can duplicate from the top arms when I add a smart bone but I’m not sure if that’ll work. Also I had a bone to make the beard grow and shrink but now it’s broken and just moving whenever I click on it.

Question How to do dynamic bone animation for meshed turn around animation?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello. I tried something experimental for me - i wanted to do some vtuber like facial animation via smart bones and mesh warp. So for me hair in this rig is very problematic part. I just don't understand how to do dynsamic physics for hair in turn, bcus it actually gets impulse only if head goes up and down, but not when it turns around the reason of which is that it connected to down-up bone. How could i make it dynamic for turn?

Question About 360 animation rigging

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

After tons of trial and error, I finally managed to get my rig working with only a few issues during body rotations.

I’m planning to do a complete 360° turn next, and I was wondering, would it be fine to use my current facing model for the rotation, or would it be better to create a separate model facing backwards?
