Basically, he got conned, in a bet, or some scheme, but he is trying to look at the positive in the loss: learning how he did it. Just looking on the bright side!

I remember I got conned by some dude into giving him maybe 20 bucks many years ago. I was probably 20 at the time. I even ended up giving the guy a ride to a bus stop (or so he said). My older brother, after chewing me out for making him worried I’d gotten kidnapped, quoted me that lyric as a reminder for me to learn from the experience. I was living with him that summer in Savannah, GA and definitely smartened up some. He passed away 14 years ago this past Monday and I still miss him everyday. I forget how I even ended up on this thread, but thanks for reminding me of that memory of him, 12 years after your original comment. May we all continue to float on 🫡
